SHINE is immediately seeking an electromechanical engineer to help develop and manufacture a neutron driver based on an electrostatic particle accelerator, to be used in SHINE’s Mo-99 production facility.

This position will be based in Janesville, Wisconsin, and will report to the Nuclear System Manager. However, for the next few years, the electromechanical engineer is expected to spend at least 75% of their time at the Phoenix Nuclear Lab facility in Madison, Wisconsin, directly supporting the development and manufacturing activities for the neutron driver. Phoenix is SHINE’s preferred vendor for the accelerator technology.

The Electromechanical Engineer will be responsible for partnering with Phoenix on the final development of our First Production Unit (FPU). Key responsibilities include assembling and wiring large electromechanical components to drawings and specifications, performing and documenting testing procedures along with utilizing diagnostic equipment including oscilloscope, DMM, signal generators, data loggers, and similar equipment

Additionally, the role will have the responsibilities of performing operational tests and fault isolation on development systems and equipment to ensure conformance with design specifications, diagnosing and isolating malfunctions down to component level, conducting defined engineering tests and collecting data as assigned.

SHINE is seeking candidates with at least a Bachelor’s degree in engineering including 5 years’ experience in a technical environment preferably within high vacuum, high voltage (>50 kV) and/or plasma systems.

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls regulations (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Asylee or Refugee). Also, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards information which typically requires pre-employment drug test, fingerprinting, and a criminal background check.
