Talascend is currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Supervisor for a direct hire opportunity with our client located in Newport, MI.

OVERVIEW:

Responsible for overall supervision, adherence to standards and procedures, and the development of staff within an assigned area(s) of the Corporation's Nuclear Organizations. Areas super-vised may include: nuclear plant system, equipment & structure maintenance; nuclear power- generating equipment operation, including reactors, reactor plant support systems (e.g. fuel handling, radioactive waste disposal); secondary plant systems and pumps, electrical breaker connections, tur- bines, generators, and associated auxiliary equipment; nuclear corrective action, licensing, document control, training and the development/maintenance of associated processes and procedures. Ensures compliance with applicable Corporate, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations, employee and public safety provisions. Leads continuous improvement (CI) commitment and systematic CI efforts for a given group(s). Span of control: typically = 5 jobs & 10 FTEs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs or ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit: planning, organizing, directing the performance of on-going activities and/or special / ad hoc assignments, staffing (employee selection, training/coaching & performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting & budgeting; mentors, provides guidance and direction, and acts in a subject matter expert capacity for less experienced staff.
Leads the continuous improvement commitment & efforts for a given group(s): designing processes; establishing quality/quantity standards & metrics; collecting, refining, adapting & communicating best practices; sharing knowledge and developing staff in a systematic fashion. Uses process design outcomes to solve problems.
Implements and supervises a range of engineering, technical and support activities / practices, making sound decisions on a expedient basis, maximizing results (ultimately, electrical output), while minimizing costs, consistent with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
Leads cross-functional teams, resolving multiple complex organizational and/or technical issues.
Participates in Emergency Response Organization (ERO) activities, as applicable.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or an applicable science discip-line, & the knowledge / capabilities typically acquired through 10-plus years of experience in nuclear plant design, construction, operation, or maintenance (or equivalent Navy nuclear experience), inclusive of senior-, lead- or project management experience; requires at least 4 years in the specific area being supervised. Must satisfy applicable regulatory & Corporate security / drug testing provisions and have the physical capability to work in a nuclear power plant (i.e. climb stairs, work in hot environments & radiation/contamination areas).
Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly, with credibility and confidence.
Analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
Competent in multi-tasking (i.e. the ability to prioritize & manage multiple tasks, issues or projects that may include high- visibility initiatives and require innovation, teamwork & planning).
Balances multiple demands from superiors, subordinates & peers in a positive and even-handed fashion; displays a calm demeanor under pressure.
Provides leadership through example in a unionized environment, consistent with prevailing collective bargaining agreements.
Motivates through leading by example, coaching/mentoring and providing ongoing constructive feedback to subordinate staff; competent in systematically eliciting the best efforts & results from subordinate staff; deals effectively with resistance; takes positive steps to avoid the recurrence of errors through constructive critique.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of IEEE Standards.
Knowledge of ETAP.
