During periods of tooling development, testing and maintenance, the EDM Operator/E- Technician works with the responsible tooling engineer and/or personnel performing electronic maintenance. The EDM Operator/E- Technician uses design drawings and/or verbal directions from lead tooling engineers, supports tool and test engineers during fabrication, assembly, testing, and field use as well as troubleshooting and repair EDM Operator/E- Technician can work with a variety of tooling and equipment including electro-mechanical systems for inspection, EDM, mechanical cutting, measurement, alignment and similar complex tools and robotics including remote underwater vehicles. Work also includes complex processes such as remote/automated welding and plasma spray coating and data acquisition systems.

Receipt of the tool parts from the machine shop; checking dimensions on all parts and connection points; loose fit ups; function checks on tools and hydraulic and pneumatic fittings and hoses; work with the engineer to correct any problems.
Full assembly for testing with all parts torque, sealed and locked-tight. The tools and EDM actuator would then be tested on a mockup in the test tanks.
Any problems identified at this stage reported to the engineer immediately. After the tool is mechanically correct, testing on the EDM Actuator, EDM Electrode and Swarf system would be done. The testing of the EDM tools is very detailed and exacting as the burn time, burn smoothness, burn size (over burn) and swarf removal settings for the initial burn in the clients vessel would be determined at this time. These may be changed on site to allow for the clients water chemistry.
