Site Safety & Health Officer - SSHO

The hourly rate $31/hour plus $4.27/hour fringe rate = $35.27. If not local we have mob/demob ($0.55/mile) and a per diem rate of $51.00/day. For now this work runs through November –

Location: Burlington, Iowa
Position Summary:
Assisting with evaluations and recommendations regarding safe work practices and the day-to-day monitoring requirements specified in project work control documents.
Conducting daily safety and health inspections and maintaining a written log.
Conducting incident investigations and completing required reports.
Implementing and assisting personnel in complying with safety and health plans and procedures.
Performing environmental and physiological monitoring for heat and cold stress.
Performing safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety compliance assurance forth project.
Performing sampling and monitoring activities in working areas for noise, respiratory, and other hazards, using calibrated industrial hygiene sampling equipment and real-time monitoring instruments.
3 - 5 years of health & safety experience, with increasing job responsibilities
High School Diploma, A.S. or B.S. in a related discipline preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to coordinate multiple activities and provide H&S oversight for multiple contractors and crafts.
Experience on a U.S. Army Corps of Engineer (USACE) site preferred.
Working knowledge of applicable federal and state safety and health regulations, including USACE EM 385-1-1, Safety and Health Requirements Manual.
Experience with or working knowledge of the following safety subjects is a plus:
Excavations and Trenching
Respiratory Protection
Hazard Communication
Electrical Safety
Fire Protection and Prevention
Fall Protection
Welding, Cutting, Brazing, and Grinding (Hot Work/Spark and Flame)
Personal Protective Equipment
Hearing Conservation
Permit Required Confined Spaces
Lockout/Tag out
Cranes and Material Handling Equipment
Professional certification(s) and/or licensure are desirable.
Ability to obtain Radiation Worker II qualifications, complete OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) worker qualifications, and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical exam.
Ability to work in different types of personal protective equipment (half-face, full-face respirators, Tyvek, etc.) while performing various tasks/activities (e.g., climbing, walking, stopping, etc.) in different work environments (e.g., cold, heat, etc.).
Experience in work environments with exposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software (Microsoft Word, Excel).
Motivated and willing to work as part of a team and perform multiple job functions.
Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in written form, and to maintain records related to the job.
Ability to read and comply with project direction contained in project-specific plans and procedures, and/or execute tasks after receiving verbal direction.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
May be required to pass a pre-employment background check.
Must be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Experience on remediation/construction type projects is highly desirable.
Experience in emergency management and/or emergency medical response is a plus.
Certification as having completed training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross is a plus.
