Engineer V / Advisory Engineer
Requirements:
• BS Degree and 15+ years’ experience
• Advanced Degree & 13 years experience
• Advanced Degree is desired

Roles and Responsibilities:
• National recognition in field of expertise.
• Displays a significant record of peer reviewed publications, reports, presentations, intellectual property and or technical products.
• Contributes to technology transfer.
• Demonstrated mastery of applying advanced or highly complex concepts and techniques.
• Advances state of the art technologies and concepts.
• Develops information, which extends the existing boundaries of knowledge in a given field, traditional applications, or processes.
• Recognized by multiple business areas as a technical/scientific leader.
• Determines or approves technical approach for solving client problems at a national level.
• Exercises an identifiable expertise by making significant and progressive contributions.
• Involved in planning for long-term technical capabilities that have a national impact.
• Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product.
• Critical organizational objectives are dependent upon decision or recommendations.
• Leads and or provides peer review work of other across Lab teams/projects.
• Networks across BMI, other national laboratories, and national peer groups. Technical resource and mentor to staff across Lab.
• Assists staff in achieving career goals.
• Sought out to participate on or lead Lab teams that influence operations and strategies.
• Identifies and leads strategic business investment programs.
• Influences future science and technology agendas for division.
• Participates in professional activities at regional and national level.
• May impact national professional policies and standards.
• Serves on external review committees.
• Influences industry scientific or engineering standards and procedures.
• Leads proposal activities to pursue new areas of R&D that meet organizational long-term strategic goals. May participate in planning Lab-wide initiatives and or sector product line strategies.
• Able to fund self projects, initiatives and other senior staff.
• Organizes and chairs sessions at national level; presents invited papers; provides overview of activities and results with visitors, customers, and speakers, Sought out to participate on peer reviews and book chapters.
• Conceives, plans and conducts research that may have considerable influence on scientific knowledge or technological developments.
• Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments.
• Provides leadership in identifying, promoting, and developing appropriate new technical capabilities within directorate.
