Job Title: ADVISORY DESIGN AUTHORITY ENGINEER
Duration: THREE YEARS, NO OPTIONS

Duties: Provide technical support to the SRPPF Project Design Authority Manager. Primary responsibilities include conducting independent technical reviews of nuclear technical work documents in support of Design Authority work on the SRPPF project. These reviews are identified based upon organization need throughout the year. Additional responsibilities include advising and assisting junior and mid-level professionals design authority staff while advocating opportunities for their personal growth, providing subject matter expertise and advice in multi-functional technical teams, participating in the performance of technical design reviews of projects and programmatic reviews while supporting both the review process and the closeout of reviews, making recommendations and assisting the engineering staff in setting objectives while ensuring technical excellence and cost effectiveness, sharing technical knowledge and experience with the new staff to assist in the acceleration of personnel learning and qualifications, providing recommendations to the on methods to improve and accelerate the technical onboarding of the newer staff.
Candidates must demonstrate strong mentoring/coaching capabilities, verbal and written communication skills, excellent listening skills, ability to work well with others in a team environment, and excellent planning and organizational skills. This position may require some business travel.
Education: BS Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience/Skills: Candidate shall have twenty-five (25) years of experience in facility engineering support with a minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in design authority engineering experience. Preference will be given to candidates with previous SRS nuclear facility experience and candidates with nuclear material separation and handling experience.
Candidate shall have extensive knowledge and experience with, the following:
• Conduct of Engineering related procedures and requirements in the DOE environment
• Department of Energy Orders and Regulations relative to the technical support required of DOE nuclear facilities
• Working knowledge of NEC, IES, NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA requirements.
Candidates must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, dressing out in protective clothing and environments where a respirator is required.
Work Hours: A 40 hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each work day has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Design Authority Manager
Area Security Access: A DOE security clearance is not initially required; however, candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance. Preference will be given to candidates who have held a“Q” clearance in the past two years.
