PPPL is seeking an electrical field engineer with the ability to develop electrical designs, champion designs through the review process and oversee projects through the installation phase, including field work. Electrical Project scope include (but is not limited to) supporting the manufacture and installation of NSTX-U engineering instrumentation, diagnostics to be installed in plasma facing components, and magnetic diagnostics.
Design and manufacture: Specifying and design of control circuits; low voltage AC and DC power distribution systems; conduit and cable tray layout and routing; preparation and review of construction drawings prior to release for construction; preparing job time and cost estimates; and preparing and participating in design reviews that involve electrical installations.
Installation: Preparing and reviewing installation packages and procedures; performing job reviews with installers, QA and other stakeholders; coordinating, overseeing and managing installation activities in the field on tight timescales; labeling of equipment, conduits and cabling; updating and reviewing as-built drawings
Education and Experience:
BS/BE degree in electrical engineering with 5 years of experience in the design and installation of electrical power systems (up to 480V) in a research or industrial setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (including unique software/hardware requirements)
A comprehensive knowledge of the National Electric Code (NFPA 70) for sizing and specifying electrical equipment (breakers, panels, etc.), conductors and grounds, and related components.
Familiarity with arc flash calculations, NFPA 70E and applicable electrical safety requirements in OSHA regulations
Proficiency with AUTOCAD to prepare and review drawings and configuration diagrams
Working Condidtions: (Shift work, onsite or remote work, hours and other unique job conditions)
Mostly office based, up to 20% on the field,
