Sonic Systems manages qualified field service technicians who perform maintenance, repairs, and modifications to commercial nuclear facilities in the United States and around the globe.
Sonic Systems is looking for applicants with mechanical aptitude and experience to work as a Control Rod Drive Technician to support nuclear outages in the US.
We are looking for individuals with mechanical experience and abilities who are able to meet the physical demands of the job. Skill based training on specialized tooling is provided to those selected prior to the outage assignment.
Nuclear outage projects run in the Fall and Spring season when utilities shut down for maintenance. Training is held in December/January, followed by one or two Spring assignments, generally running from February to May.
The CRD Technician works under the CRD Lead Technician, performing or supporting exchange activities on Control Rod Drive units as well as other work undervessel as required. The work is typically performed in a very congested and high radiation area, requiring the individual to wear radiation and environmental protection equipment (determined and supplied by site). Most work is performed above the shoulders. Position requires 100% travel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Capable of successfully working in a team environment
Possess sufficient skill and work experience to understand and perform the work in accordance with written procedures and work instruction
Conduct preparations for CRD exchange
Conduct support activities for handling CRDs
Perform required training and proficiency demonstrations as required
Provide input on work performed
Assure critical aspects of the work are fully met
Rig and move CRDs
Support CRD exchange, including equipment operation
Provide recommendations for improvements and problem resolution
Ensure Nuclear Safety is a priority during all aspects of the job
Perform safety observations at each work location
Must have strong mechanical/technical skills
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous nuclear experience highly desired
Must be proficient with computers for online training, communications, etc.
Must be able to obtain Unescorted Site Access at a Nuclear Power Plant (includes background investigation, drug testing and psychological exam)
Must be able to pass required physical exam and training for use of respirator
Meet physical requirements of the job
Able to stand, bend and kneel for extended periods of time
Able to lift 50 lbs. above head
Able to work at heights with/without fall protection or railings
Able to work in a confined space/congested work area
Able to wear full body protective clothing, to include Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)
Able to work in radiation control areas
Position is located on customer sites and requires 100% travel
