NDE Manager/ Level III

The Advanced NDE Technology (ANDE) Manager is responsible to develop and deliver new and advanced NDE solutions into the industrial manufacturing, fossil energy, gas pipeline, and (future nuclear) NDE services markets for System One. This includes advanced ultrasonic (UT) applications in phased array (PAUT), time of flight diffraction (TOFD), tip diffraction, and other UT techniques. It also includes working with in house resources for Radiographic (RT) applications including Digital Radiography, and other techniques utilized to interrogate components with RT without removing insulation. Other NDE areas may be assigned as required to compete successfully in the NDE services markets where System One provides services. The ANDE Manager must also address creative NDE technology delivery methods including pipe scanners, pipeline pigs, and other automated delivery solutions to address limited access and harsh environmental and radiological conditions. A fundamental requirement for success in this position includes responsibility to develop the technical personnel required to deploy the services. The ANDE Manager is responsible to develop the customer relationships and contracts for the ANDE services, manage the delivery of the services, and maintain the associated equipment.

The ANDE Manager is responsible for developing strategies, business positions, and justifications to support the development of NDE techniques, equipment, and personnel to be able to profitably deploy advanced NDE solutions into the manufacturing, fossil fuel power generation, gas pipeline and infrastructure, and nuclear power markets where System One competes for NDE service contracts. ANDE process development includes technology development, return on investment (ROI) analysis, procedure development, and demonstration testing to validate technique accuracy and compliance to industry codes and specifications. Personnel development includes the recruitment and training of qualified and certifiable personnel to deliver the NDE services. Equipment maintenance includes the procurement recommendations, storage, maintenance and calibration of the associated equipment in accordance with System One procedures and processes to protect the life time usability of the equipment procured to implement the different NDE processes.

The ANDE manager must possess a sound knowledge of the NDE markets served and be well grounded in advanced NDE and inspection technology. The primary goals of the ANDE Manager is creating and implementing successful strategies, technology, and personnel to deliver new revenue streams from deployment of advanced NDE inspection services and managing the delivery of high quality and profitable NDE projects.

The Advanced NDE Technology Manager evaluates business condition, makes recommendations to senior management, and works with System One senior management and Quality Solutions Industrial NDE Operations leaders to establish strategies that provide solutions to NDE service customer needs. The ANDE manager works with customers to deliver advanced NDE solutions to customer issues that result in revenue to System One. The ANDE manager participates in associated proposal development and issuance and related actions for the ANDE proposals within Quality Solutions. The ANDE Manager must have excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical capability, leadership, and organizational skills. Achieving a thorough understanding of how each department in System One operates from administrative processes to operations is also necessary.

The ANDE Manager is also responsible to participate in the training and development of System One NDE technicians and System One Technical Training Center (SOTC) students. The position is also accountable to perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities/Job Functions:

• The ANDE Manager seeks to expand System One’s NDE services market foot print and revenues by researching new business opportunities, developing strategic sales plans, and utilizing strong technological knowledge, business development comprehension, and human relation skills.
• Assessment of marketing opportunities, intelligence gathering on customers and competition, generating sales leads, and formal proposal writing.
• Responsible for technology development including:
o Technical justifications
o ROI processing and approval
o Equipment procurement, calibration, and maintenance
o Procedure development
o Personnel development and certification for ANDE areas in conjunction with the System One QA Manager
o Oversight and performance of delivered ANDE Services
• Works with Operations Managers in establishing project costs for proposals, and billing rates
• Responsible to coordinate the identification of ANDE bid opportunities
• Conducts post award client negotiations.
• Works with the Sr. VP of Quality Solutions to establish ANDE practices, strategies, and budgets.
• Responsible for ANDE strategy execution and tracking.
• Provides input to the Quality Solutions Strategic Plan
• Works with the System One Technical Manager and SOTC Director to ensure future training needs to support NDE development strategies.
• Direct and focuses ANDE sales.
• Conducts research on industry trends, market research, and competition.
• Establishes communication channels and trust relationships with ANDE clients.
• Reports to senior leadership on ANDE Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats, and Competition.

Required Experience/Education:

• Preferred Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in an engineering, materials, or advanced NDE technical training in multiple NDE methods is desired and typical.
• Experience at different levels within a NDE service organization from project management, estimating, or technical services, to operations and department management.
• Thorough knowledge of NDE technology applications in energy and manufacturing services
• Thorough knowledge in NDE process development and procedure qualification.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a business development or proposal management position
• In depth personnel leadership and project leadership skills and experience.
• Strong familiarity with commercial fundamentals, cost development, pricing and ROI analysis development.
• Experience with negotiating contracts.
• Experienced in interfacing with client technical leaders and management, plus customer staff in Administrative, Operations, and Project Management areas.
• Technical Training skills required

• Internal -
Billing, Accounts Receivable, and Legal
Regional Managers, Department Managers, QA Manager, Operations Managers, Technical Managers, and Project Managers
Non-Management Employees:
Works with technicians to perform training, certification, and delivery functions.
Ascertains field conditions, provides client feedback, and applies fore-knowledge on technical and commercial problems.
Upper Level Management
Works with the Sr. VP of Quality Solutions on Business Unit strategic plan development. Participates in budget development processes for ANDE areas. Develops and presents ROI data and materials to support funding decisions.
