Under general direction and/or using detailed procedures and/or work instructions, perform simple and routine as well as some non-routine tasks or tests within, but not necessarily limited to, the area of plumbing repair, maintenance and installation to include: perform the following activities under general direction in accordance with established procedures; install or repair water, steam, gas, or other types of pipe and pipe-fittings above or below grade; lay out work and measure to locate position of pipe from drawings, specifications, or work orders; cut various sizes of pipe to correct lengths with hand tools, torch, or pipe cutting machines; using hand tools following blueprints or engineering specifications; thread pipe with stocks and dies; bend pipe by hand-driven or power driven machines; assemble pipe with coupling, sleeves, unions, or solder joints and fastens pipe to pipe hangers; make standard shop computations related to size of pipe required, and make standard tests to determine whether finished piping systems meet specifications; install and repair plumbing fixtures, and open clogged pipes using hand or power-driven augers and snakes; install, inspect, and rebuild backflow prevention devices in accordance with Federal, State, and local codes and laws.
Other duties as assigned to insure timely project execution.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
High school diploma or GED/TASC/ HiSET
Qualified / Licensed journeyman in accordance with State or union rules
3-5 years commercial experience
Basic computer skills required
Current master license
5-10 years commercial experience
Ability to work from prints and engineering specs
Familiarity with fire systems
Trained in LOTO and trench safety
Physical and Mental Demands:
Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling, and carrying.
Constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
Most positions involve work in environments (e.g., projects, labs, outside locations, etc. where mechanical equipment, is being installed, tested, analyzed, monitored, or operated and / or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy and or have exposed moving components.
Integrated Safety Management:
Know and follow environment, safety, and health (ES&H) policies and procedures that apply to their job assignments.
Become knowledgeable of and maintain awareness of the ES&H hazards associated with their work. Perform work safely in accordance with hazard controls.
Report all unsafe operations, and, if necessary, exercise stop-work authority in cases of imminent danger.
Work only on those tasks in which they have the required competence, training, skills, and abilities so as to prevent injury to one’s self, employees, the public, or the environment.
Maintain active involvement in the introduction, revision, and/or promotion of ES&H/ISM program activities.
Hours of Work:
This is typically an 8 hour per day daylight schedule. Must be available after hours and on weekends when required.
Local candidates preferred, no per diem or relocation offered.
