System One is seeking a highly motivated Principal Safety Verification and Validation Engineer supporting the design and licensing of the Natrium Demonstration reactor across a diverse nuclear energy plant design and construction project for a long-term contract in Bellevue, WA.
Primarily responsible for the verification and validation of software and evaluation models used:
Analysis of Licensing Basis Events (LBEs) Without Radionuclide Release
Analysis of LBEs With Radionuclide Release
Mechanistic Source Term
Emergency Planning Zone
Radiological Releases Consequence
The Principal Safety Verification and Validation Engineer may also contribute subject matter expertise to other projects under development by the company's Sodium Fast Reactor (SFR) Program. Other engineering activities include, but are not limited to, performing accident analyses, contributing to software commercial grade dedication, participating in hazard analysis, participating to Structures, Systems and Components (SSC) classification, as well as performing verification and validation activities.
Under the company's matrix organizational structure, the Principal Safety Verification and Validation Engineer receives administrative and technical supervision from the Nuclear Safety and Licensing Discipline Manager and project direction from project managers.
Lead and coordinate work performed by safety verification and validation engineers to develop assessment bases (benchmark, identify applicable tests, etc.) and asses the evaluation model.
Lead and coordinate safety software commercial grade dedication technical activities, and other verification activities performed inside and outside of the company.
Help develop and grow the Natrium safety verification and validation team.
Participate to the development of work plans and schedules.
Contribute to the development of analytical and computational models in collaboration with safety analysis engineers
Coordinate collaboration with safety verification and validation engineers to develop assessment bases (benchmark, identify applicable tests, etc.) and asses the evaluation model.
Contribute to the verification and validation activities.
Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish core and reactor SSC functional, performance, safety, and quality requirements as well as support the overall design.
Perform engineering reviews of analyses and other engineering design media.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Significant experience in leading and coordinating safety verification and validation activities.
Knowledgeable of nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic fundamentals as well as reactor dynamics and transient phenomena.
Significant experience with safety analysis codes such as SAS4A/SASSYS-1, GOTHIC, RELAP5, TRACE, MELCOR, MACCS, RADTRAD or equivalent.
Familiarity with nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors is required.
Familiarity with EMDAP and Regulatory Guide 1.203 is required.
Experience with SFR safety methods is highly desirable. Experience with other reactor designs can be considered when differentiating candidates.
Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical, modeling and reporting skills.
Understanding of NQA-1 requirements associated with analysis and software management as well as experience working under a quality assurance programs.
Experience in working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to address engineering challenges.
Strong software engineering skills in any language is a plus.
The applicant must be willing to eventually relocate to Bellevue, WA area.
At least 15+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree; or 12+ years and an M.S. degree; or a PhD with 8+ years of experience in the nuclear field.
