Electrical Engineer to perform duties supporting UCOR projects and/or Electrical Engineering Program function. Project locations can include ORNL and Y-12, but primarily is designed for EMWMF, ORRLF and the Transportation Hub projects. Duties to include:
• Prepare and review engineering calculations including Arc Flash calculations;
• Develop electrical and instrumentation engineering change documentation, and associated drawings/sketches;
• Incorporate electrical system changes into facility red line drawings and oversee the drawing revisions;
• Assist with development of maintenance work packages as well as new construction and process proposed changes from
• Provide technical oversight of electrical field activities including troubleshooting, design changes, repairs and new installation;
• Assist with the development, review, and approval of scopes of work, technical specifications, sole source justifications, purchase
orders and other procurement aspects within the electrical scope;
• Troubleshoot electrical systems. Interpret electrical codes and provide guidance as needed;
• Field engineering and troubleshooting is a plus;
• Experience in multi-discipline engineering organizations or projects is a plus;
• Experience working on operational work sites is a plus;
• Other electrical engineering duties as necessary and assigned;
This position requires location across Oak Ridge facilities so candidate much be local or willing to relocate to the area.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience (equivalent experience defined as demonstrated success at
the engineer level)
• 2+ years experience in electrical systems design, installation, troubleshooting, and repairs/renovations with 13.8KV, 440V,
220-208V, and 110V power distribution systems
• Familiarity with and experience in implementation of NFPA 70 National Electric Code
• Experience in preparing and reviewing detailed calculations, reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and
concise manner
• Professional Engineer license is a plus
• Experience in providing support to the preparation and implementation of work packages for modifications, repairs, or upgrades to
electrical systems
• Experience in development of engineering change documentation for changes to existing electrical systems
• Experience with outdoor lighting design for industrial facilities
• Experience specifying or procuring electrical equipment items that are listed, labeled or recognized by a Nationally Recognized
Testing Laboratory
• Functional with MS Word, Excel and Outlook software

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture or
science or equivalent education, specific training, or experience
in area of expertise, as approved by the pertinent Discipline

Experience: 4 – 15+ years discipline experience in area of

• Provides leadership direction to technical personnel,
including assigning highly complex work and, setting work
• Provides management with acceptable implementation of
design and consulting coordination.
• Ensure documents, operating procedures etc. meet industry,
company, and client standards
• Applies expertise in a specialized field of engineering or
science to broadly stated technical problems.
• Identifies and defines problems; plans and conducts
research aimed at their solution. Conducts or leads special
studies on new technologies, methods, and materials.
• Carries out special or unique studies requiring
unconventional or novel approaches or research techniques.
• Uses all available guides and precedents and expands and
develops where these contain critical gaps, are only
partially related to the problem, or are largely lacking
because of the novel character of the project.
• Leads, as requested, in the formulation of advanced
engineering/scientific concepts during proposal
development and preliminary design phases and presents
these to client management.
• Conducts research, presents papers, and keeps abreast of
technological developments in a specialty, keeping
engineering management informed of important new
• Serves as consultant to project and specialty
engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel
on assignments having special and unique features.
• Supports preparation of and reviews discipline estimates,
discipline work plans, budgets and schedules.
• Develops and coordinates special educational and training
programs for UCOR personnel and/or clients.
