Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Fire Protection Engineer opportunity for our customer in Oak Ridge, TN at the Y-12 National Security Complex to support the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) Project.
The Fire Protection Engineer will be working as part of the Fire Protection team designing and/or procuring the plant fire protection systems as well as providing construction support.
You will be preparing technical reports and studies and design documentation, performing calculations using engineering software, providing construction support and preparing specifications for complex mechanical equipment and supporting systems.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience in fire protection system design and construction; and will be capable of developing design documents, including piping and instrument diagrams and equipment data sheets, that incorporate the applicable design requirements.
Candidate shall have working knowledge of the IBC and NFPA standards including but not limited to NFPA 13, NFPA 72, NFPA 801, NFPA 101, and NFPA 241.
You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering/construction disciplines and the client in the development of the design and installation of the systems.
Experience in design, procurement, and installation of fire protection equipment per DOE and National Standards is required.
Requires a BS degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology (or approved equivalent) from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 6 years of related experience.
Understanding of construction roles, practices, and economics.
Practical work experience in equipment design and procurement.
Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.
Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, Broad knowledge of the application of Fire Protection engineering design principles.
Nuclear experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1.
Knowledge of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and the use HASS (Hydraulic Analyzer for Sprinkler Systems).
