ENGINEER II – SENIOR ENGINEER II (FIRE PROTECTION)
Grades 23-28

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Q-Clearance
• Ability to prepare Transitional Fire Hazards Analysis and Fire Hazards Analysis in accordance with DOE Order 420.1C, Facility Safety
• Knowledge of DOE Fire Protection Orders and Standards
• Knowledge of fire water systems and construction experience preferred
• D&D experience preferred
• Perform field verifications and walk downs of fire protection related equipment

SPECIAL TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS, QUALIFICATIONS, OR LICENSES

• Meets the definition of Qualified Fire Protection Engineer in accordance with DOE
• Meets the requirements for Professional Member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four -year accredited college or university

EXPERIENCE

2+ years of experience required. FE (EIT) certificate preferred.

LEVEL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Under direct supervision, completes assignments of limited complexity
• Under direct supervision, completes assignments of limited complexity
• Applies a basic level of understanding within a specific discipline
• Understands project scopes as presented within a specific discipline
• Has basic knowledge of business development concepts and methods and provides support to proposals as required
• Familiar with codes, permits and company cornerstone applications
• Familiar with the work sequence, general content, and the methods used to generate specifications for the purchase of material, equipment, systems, services, or construction within engineer’s discipline
• Basic knowledge of the process of preparing and checking calculations within a specific discipline
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings
• Assists in the collection of data and information regarding technical and economic factors relating to a specific subject within a specific discipline
• Understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management
• Understands and reviews vendor documents for a specific discipline
• Basic knowledge of manpower loading
• Performs material takeoffs for a specific discipline
• Basic knowledge of discipline material costs
• Basic knowledge of planning and scheduling tasks within a specific discipline
• Basic knowledge of project change control process
• Basic knowledge of discipline’s equipment and material lists
• Can fully integrate constructability concerns into engineering solutions


GRADE 24

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four -year accredited college or university

EXPERIENCE

4+ years of experience required. FE (EIT) certificate preferred.

LEVEL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision, may complete engineering assignments of moderate complexity within
a specific discipline
• Intermediate level of understanding of general engineering principles within a specific discipline
• Understands and assists with project scope within a specific discipline
• Familiar with business development concepts and methods and provides support to proposals
• Familiar with codes, permits and company cornerstone applications
• Understands the work sequence, general content, and the methods used to generate specifications for the purchase of material, equipment, systems, services, or construction within a specific discipline
• Fully versed with the process of preparing and checking of calculations within a specific discipline
• Ability to learn and use basic CAD sketching tools
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings
• Collects data and information regarding technical and economic factors relating to a specific subject within a discipline
• Fully understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management
• Fully understands and reviews vendor documents for a specific discipline
• Collects data on manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements to aid in the development of budget
• Able to take the lead on estimating tasks and perform material take-offs for a specific discipline
