Role Summary / Purpose
Provide senior licensing engineers working under the direction of Client New Power Plants and Products Licensing to assist in the preparation and review of Sodium Fast Reactor (SFR) licensing basis documentation and regulatory submittals to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and to support New Power Plants and Products Licensing interactions with project partner and with utility customer and NRC Staff, in support of deployment of the SFR in the United States. Additional Project Team support to Engineering for design activities will be required.
Support SFR licensing activities with utility partners and NRC with input from the SFR Project Team for deployment of the Natrium SFR in the United States and provide support to Engineering for assigned design activities.
Support preparation, review, and conduct of technical and licensing presentations to utility partners and NRC in assigned areas.
Coordinate and attend SFR meetings with utility partners and NRC as directed.
Prepare and review licensing documentation such as, but not limited to, Regulatory Engagement Plans, Application Basis Documents, and PSAR Outlines for the Natrium SFR, as directed.
Prepare and review responses to NRC Requests for Additional Information (RAIs), as well as other correspondence and licensing submittals to the NRC, as directed.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelors degree in engineering, scientific discipline, or other related technical fields.
Ten years or more interacting with NRC Staff on behalf of nuclear power plant license applicants and license holders.
Experience in preparation of licensing submittals to the NRC, and facilitation of NRC reviews and approvals in support of nuclear power plant license applications.
Experience in 10CFR50 licensing processes, including Preliminary Safety Analysis Report, responses to NRC questions, and Final Safety Analysis Report preparation and submittal.
Specific experience in NRC regulations and regulatory guidance in one or more of the following technical areas:
- Reactor pressure vessel design requirements
- Heat transport and removal systems
- Control rod drive systems
- Human factors engineering
- Evaluation of normal operation, anticipated operational occurrences, and design basis accidents, including transient and accident analysis and acceptance criteria requirements
Additional Desired Characteristics
Previous experience with Small Modular Reactor, especially non-LWR licensing activities, highly desired.
Ability to primarily work remotely and meet deliverable schedules, with on-demand support of travel to Wilmington, NC office and other locations including NRC Headquarters or customer sites in support of Natrium SFR licensing activities. Travel dependent upon COVID-19 travel restrictions.
