[Technical Writer] Technical Development and Implementation Manager

To assist NSTX-U Project team with the development and implementation of technical procedure writing standards and templates for all manuals for future work.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

As SME, mentor other subcontracted Technical Writers PPPL engineering and technical staff in preparation and revision.
With PPPL management, assist in developing improvements in current PPPL technical procedure preparation guidance to align with DOE and PPA guidelines.
Collaborate with engineering and technical staff in the preparation of quality highly detailed technical procedures which conform to DOE and Procedures Professional Association (PPA) standards.
Review procedures prepared by the engineering and technical staff to verify correctness and ensure compliance with established PPPL guidelines and provide comment and feedback to procedure authors..
Assist the project team with procedure reviews and the documented resolution of issues and comments including entry into the NSTX-U Document Management System
Assist the project team with revisions to procedures in accordance with established procedures

Qualifications and Experience

Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or equivalent based on 2:1 years (experience: college)
15+ experience as a technical writer with 5+ years as a Senior Technical Writer in commercial nuclear or DOE organizations.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to take written synthesized technical information and prepare concise, technical instructive procedures written for the User
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word and Google docs
Well organized, with ability to manage and track procedures from initial development, to review and comment, final approval and implementation, and post-issuance revisions resulting from changing condition.
Ability to communicate and work with a broad range of personnel (managers, engineers, physical workers)

Work Environment

100% remote work from home which will require stable internet connection to PPPL-furnished or candidate’s computer. Collaboration with the PPPL team will require remove meetings via Zoom or other


Physical Demands

None special – home-based office work. Typical workday involves 6 or more hours on computer.
