Role Overview:
Assigned to the Construction organization in a Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer role. Responsible for supporting Field Supervision and Craft personnel with material and technical documentation for permanent plant and temporary construction installations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assists construction supervision in planning construction methods and procedures. Coordinates engineering or construction problems with superintendents.
• Interprets design engineering drawings and prepares construction working drawings for the use of superintendents as required
• Temporary construction facilities.
• Field sketches of revisions and additions and preparing "as built" drawings.
• Reviews design drawings, studies Interference problems and reviews related vendor drawings and installation instructions.
• Prepares or directs preparation of field bulk material purchase requisitions, including estimating the quantities and material takeoffs of the field purchases of materials.
• Track commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database programs as required.
• Assists in coordination of vendor material deliveries, storage of materials, expediting and engineering reports related to the schedule.
• Prepares projections and schedules for manpower, material and equipment requirements.
• Prepares field change notices, extra work orders and back charge notices.
• Prepares assigned Project Controls programs. Reviews project controls documents on progress. Assures the project controls programs are fully automated for use in the field.
• Prepares cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bills of materials to ensure their completeness.
• Maintains records of costs and quantity information, evaluates data, prepares applicable reports as requested by project management utilizing established, standardized automation tools
• Administers change notices and amendments audits contractor requests for progress payments.
• May be required to provide input on employee reviews of assigned subordinate personnel.
• Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings and specifications.
• Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the mechanical discipline and/or the piping discipline such as mechanical equipment installation, piping installation, maintenance, and testing.
• Establish a mechanical/piping design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer, including the agreement on mechanical engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management.
• Responsible for quantity take-off, control, tracking, reporting and forecasting for mechanical discipline.
• Specify the mechanical criteria for the mechanical construction of temporary construction facilities as required.
• Coordinate with the Procurement Organization for field procured materials, material substitution, services and equipment such as tanks and drums, pipe spools, valves, fittings, hoists, gantry, cranes, and fans and blowers.
• Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct mechanical materials.
• Coordinate and monitor the interfaces for mechanical data exchange to support the construction automation plan and the project controls program requirements at the jobsite.
• Support the mechanical and piping construction quality program.
• Participate in the preparation of cost estimates for mechanical construction activities and coordinate the preparation of cost reports, forecasts and progress reports.
• Coordinate with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.
• Plan and recommend mechanical and piping procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.
• Work with customer’s resident engineering and operating personnel to coordinate mechanical and piping construction activities.
• Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure mechanical and piping materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications.
• Implement controls over variables affecting mechanical job progress such as equipment installation, maintenance, and testing. Also ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and that other corporate programs are fully utilized.
• Undertake mechanical/piping testing including leak testing and cleaning/flushing.
• Perform other duties as required by company management.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment, education and travel.
• Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing. scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is required.
• Candidates should be self-starters, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment.
• The candidate should have a good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as UPC, IBC, SMACNA, ASME, NFPA as well as NQA-1 requirements.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance standards required on NNSA/DOE projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Recent experience as a Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer at a large EPC Project.
• Previous experience working on a large EPC project for the Department of Energy (DOE).
• Previous experience NQA-1 Piping (small bore) and Specialized Mechanical Equipment (Glove Boxes, equipment skids, multi-discipline pipe racks).
• Previous experience using Teamworks or Pipe Fighter Application/Tools
