[Environmental Engineer] Geotechnical Engineer

Geotechnical Engineer to support the project manager and other staff as directed to assure customer satisfaction through the preparation of detailed calculations, performing engineering analyses, and completing field assignments. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects involving site characterization; landfill design and construction; earth retaining structures; deep and soft/weak foundations; water containment structures; and geohazard/earthquake characterization/mitigation.

Must be familiar with, and comply with, all relevant health and safety requirements. Must be knowledgeable of emergency action policies and procedures, methods for reporting/resolving unsafe work practices or conditions to available cognizant professionals.

In addition, the successful candidate knows and complies with environmental, safety, health, and pollution prevention regulations, policies, and procedures for this position. Ensures own safety and safety of coworkers. Reports unsafe work conditions to immediate manager. Ensures that the five core functions of the Integrated Safety Management System are understood and applied when performing job duties. Ensures that operational excellence is achieved through appropriate implementation of conduct of operations.

Job responsibilities include the following:

Observing and documenting field activities related to the construction process (10%)

Sampling, testing, and inspecting soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel placement (10%)

Performing calculations and data reduction of test results along with drafting (15%)

Using field testing equipment and documenting readings (5%)

Reading maps, following directions, and interpreting engineering and construction plans (20%)

Interacting and communicating daily with contractors, technicians, and project manager (15%)

Assist with testing of soils, foundations, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete masonry, structural steel, and asphalt pavement (5%)

Assisting with scheduling, training, and oversight of Field Technicians (5%)

Assist with managing project budgets, project set-ups, and invoicing. Performing and reviewing engineering calculations, such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and seepage (10%)

Developing, installing, and managing instrumentation monitoring systems (5%)

An ideal candidate will have at least 5 to 10 years of experience in civil geotechnical engineering, with direct involvement in civil and landfill design, condition assessments, subsurface exploration programs, engineering analyses, and regulatory permitting.
