Responsibilities & Qualifications:
A B.S. degree in aquatic ecology, fisheries, environmental science, or a related discipline is required; an M.S. degree is preferred. 3+ years of related experience. The candidate should show evidence of technical field experience via past positions. The candidate must have the ability to work in a team environment and interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues.
The applicant must be proficient in the laboratory and experienced in biological and chemical analysis. This includes but is not limited to 1) measuring various physiological and biochemical parameters in biota, including fish; 2) processing biota, sediment, and water samples for contaminant analysis; 3) experimentation with and care of fish in the laboratory; and 4) experience with identifying fish species and managing ichthyological collections. Candidates with either field hydrological or analytical/chemical instrument skills are desirable.
The candidate must have the ability to conduct various aquatic field studies. The position requires a candidate who can lead small field sampling crews in data collection in aquatic systems ranging from small streams to large reservoirs. The successful candidate should have experience with biota identification (including fish) and chemical and hydrologic sampling. Experience with trailering and operating various types of boats for inland fisheries work is desirable. Experience with field data collection around hydroelectric and thermoelectric power plants is a plus.
Experimental design, data management, statistical analysis, and report writing skills are required for this position. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to research publications, proposal writing, and study planning, and to present results at local and regional conferences. Maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics. Traveling in east Tennessee and across the country is expected as part of this position.
Candidates must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift/carry 50 pounds.
