Principal Engineer

SUMMARY:
Provide senior engineering support to Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality and Waste Management (ESHQ&WM) for NNSA Capital Projects at the Savannah River Site. Primarily responsible for the development of technical waste management programs to compliantly address complex issues and problems surrounding management of all wastes associated with existing and potential new missions. Apply an operational knowledge of federal and state hazardous waste regulations to the day-to-day activities of the department including activities associated with the classification, treatment, storage, disposal, transportation, and packaging of wastes, to include waste stream characterization and determination and validation of compliance
Develop a technical waste management program to compliantly address complex issues and problems surrounding management of all wastes associated with existing and potential new missions.
Strategically perform program management duties for a variety of solid and liquid wastes, meeting all regulatory requirements and best practices.
Develop schedules and advanced technical approaches to address unique materials and waste forms while working with personnel from multiple technical fields and areas.
Responsible for the management and execution of assigned programs/projects in accordance with the requirements of SRNS, and the operating policies and principles.
Apply an operational knowledge of federal and state hazardous waste regulations to the day-to-day activities of the department including activities associated with the classification, treatment, storage, disposal, transportation, and packaging of wastes, to include waste stream characterization and determination and validation of compliance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
The subcontractor must have experience and proficiency in the activities associated with the classification, treatment, storage, disposal, transportation, and packaging of wastes, to include waste stream characterization and determination and validation of compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
Operational knowledge of federal and state environmental waste management regulations, including DOE Order 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management, is required.
The Candidate must have practical experience in SRNS Waste Certification Program requirements.
Prior experience at a DOE site is required, with preference for Savannah River Site employment.
The candidate must display excellent oral and written communication skills as the work will require integration with DOE and NNSA, External Auditors, Regulators (including EPA and SCDHEC), the public, and SRNS Senior Leadership, as well as the multiple SRS contractors.
Computer skills to support these activities and necessary documentation are required
An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. Subcontract personnel must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance.
