Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for an Environmental Engineer opportunity for our customer in Los Alamos, NM to support the Los Alamos Legacy Waste Cleanup Project.
Work Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico at the TA-54 CH-TRU and ER Projects.
The Environmental Engineer will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner; will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide Waste Management technical guidance (cradle to grave) to N3B projects and generators.
Establish and Operate waste management storage areas at project sites.
Review and provide technical input for waste sampling and analysis plans ? Evaluate and characterize waste (Solid, LLW, MLLW, Hazardous, TRU and TRU mixed)
Develop waste profiles for N3B waste streams.
Provide Waste management Technical input on Environmental Remediation and D&D project plans
Understanding and adhering to all N3B regulatory guidance and governance specific to Waste Management
Advising and consulting with all levels of staff throughout the N3B organization in identifying, resolving, and developing solutions to Waste Management challenges.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Advanced working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental and related health legislation and regulations including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments (HSWA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), and Clean Air and Water acts
Advanced knowledge of radiological characterization principles
Working knowledge of DOT requirements
Knowledge of and experienced with environmental protection principles
Ability to communicate major elements of waste management and characterization to both technical and non-technical personnel
Ability to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions on problems affecting waste management
Waste Management experience and knowledge of LLW/TRU waste
Work experience in a quality-oriented environment requiring a high degree of attention to detail
Familiar with handling and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
Ability to work within established policies and procedures, using independent judgement, ingenuity, and integrity.
Experience working in a team environment with a strong safety culture
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required.
Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
Q-Clearance Preferred or ability to obtain a DOE Clearance
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree combined with 5 to 10 years’ relative experience.
However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable
