Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical support to KAC Design Authority Engineering. Primary responsibilities include conducting independent technical reviews of nuclear technical work documents in support of Design Authority work, including the various NNSA projects underway. These reviews are identified based upon organization need throughout the year. Additional responsibilities include advising and assisting junior and mid-level professionals design authority staff, in addition to KAC Engineering Management while advocating opportunities for their personal growth, providing subject matter expertise and advice in multi- functional technical teams, participating in the performance of technical design reviews of projects and programmatic documentation while supporting both the review process and the closeout of reviews, making recommendations and assisting the engineering staff in setting objectives while ensuring technical excellence and cost effectiveness, sharing technical knowledge and experience with the new staff to assist in the acceleration of personnel learning and qualifications, providing recommendations on methods to improve and accelerate the technical onboarding of the newer staff.

Work Hours:
A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30- minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Design Authority Manager.

Area Security Access:
A DOE security clearance is not initially required; however, candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance. Preference will be given to candidates who have held a clearance in the past two years.

Education:
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Experience/Skills
• Demonstrated fifteen (15) years of experience in facility engineering support with a minimum of twenty (15) years of experience in design authority engineering experience.
• Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with Conduct of Engineering related procedures and requirements in the DOE/NNSA environment.
• Demonstrated working with multi-functional engineering organizations.
• Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with DOE Orders and Regulations relative to the technical support required of DOE facilities.
• Demonstrated strong mentoring/coaching capabilities, strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent listening skills, and excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to work will with others in a team environment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
• Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with Engineering Codes/standards requirements.
• Ability to perform periodic field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.
