[HVAC Technician] Principal HVAC Design Engineer – Greenville, SC

Job Description :
The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, supervision, and leadership as listed. This position provides oversight of design engineering activities and acts as a representative of the company to ensure technical accuracy and excellence in project execution in all phases. This position has the responsibility to promote Fluor’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical expertise. The position assumes a Discipline Lead role on assigned projects or performs engineering assignments of any complexity.

Responsibilities included the following:
Serve as Discipline Lead Engineer, assuming responsibility for technical design and providing guidance/supervision to other team members
Provide mentoring to less experienced engineers and designers including participation in performance appraisals, coaching, and counseling
Develop and review project Scope of Services, Scope of Facilities, and other project baseline documents to meet client and project requirements and goals
Develop/review and monitor estimates, schedules, and staffing forecasts, and provide project status through regular progress reports
Establish, track, and monitor key equipment and material quantities
Develop and review design criteria and project requirements, assuring they are incorporated into designs
Perform and check calculations, and develop specifications and engineering drawings that are in accordance with project requirements and relevant regulatory requirements
Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, inspection, testing, acceptance, installation, and commissioning
Participate in and support the development of permitting and subcontracting packages
Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems of varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
Other duties as assigned

Other Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide early equipment selection and sizing information to support project or process development
Establish equipment requirements, including performance parameters and materials of construction, and prepare equipment data sheets for equipment including air handling units, air conditioning equipment, water chillers, cooling towers, fired and unfired heat transfer equipment, pumps, compressors, filtration systems, tanks, and pressure vessels
Develop equipment lists, narrative specifications, and equipment general arrangement and outline drawings
Participate in 3D model reviews and closely monitor mechanical equipment layout to achieve optimal designs
Participate in supplier/contractor bid clarification, negotiation, and/or award activities
Provide consultation during fabrication and witness testing of equipment
Provide consultation and/or on-site assistance for the installation, start-up, and commissioning of equipment and systems

Basic Job Requirements :
Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and sixteen (16) years of work-related engineering experience
Professional registration in mechanical or approved other engineering field, or the ability and willingness to obtain professional registration if required
Advanced knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national codes and standards
Technical skills and industry experience as required to produce accurate, cost effective, and compliant designs in accordance with project requirements
Advanced knowledge of the design and application of HVAC and Utility equipment and controls
Advanced knowledge and experience in the design of duct systems for general HVAC systems and process systems
Ability to supervise and lead a design team to work effectively with both internal and external organizations, including the ability to:
Develop detailed estimates and staffing plans for design engineering
Develop control-level schedules and perform accurate progress reporting and forecasting
Manage personnel, work assignments, and activities to assure that work is performed in a way that meets project estimates and schedules
Assume responsibility for the technical design performed by the discipline
Perform project close-out
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups that include, but are not limited to, project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
Ability to work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Experience with execution of projects utilizing 3D CAD systems

Other Job Requirements
Candidates MUST be a US Citizen and NOT HOLD dual Citizenship
All work must be performed in strict compliance with Fluor quality programs
Ability to work in industries and with clients that utilize protected information and keep such information secure
Computer and software skills to include the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic presentation programs

Preferred Qualifications :
Membership in a professional technical society
Advanced knowledge of US nuclear regulatory
requirements applicable to the design of commercial nuclear power and/or DOE facilities
Experience in project execution utilizing Intergraph SmartPlant® design applications, including P&ID, 3D, and Foundation
Ability to work in 2D CAD systems including AutoCAD and/or Microstation
Ability to work in 3D CAD systems including AutoCAD, Revit, SmartPlant®, and/or Microstation
Practical field experience related to the installation, start-up, and commissioning of HVAC and Utility equipment and systems
