[Industrial Hygienist] Environmental Health and Safety Professional (Research Ops Support)

Spectra Tech is in need of an Environmental Health and Safety Professional (Research Ops Support) for a position in Tennessee.

Spectra Tech seeks multiple Health and Safety (H&S) Professionals for Safety & Operations Services Division (SOSD) short term (6-12 months) field support positions to meet expanding needs for safety support and operational excellence to accomplish the need of the cutting-edge scientific research mission.

The positions will work as part of integrated teams that have responsibility for H&S oversight activities and tasks associated with work control and research support operations. Positions will provide H&S and operational support to maintain compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws, DOE Orders, and policies and procedures regarding safety, environmental protection, space utilization, and perhaps facility management support. The positions are in the Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) Directorate and will be matrixed to provide safety and health support to research and development (R&D) operations.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

� Provide professional safety and industrial hygiene (IH) support to R&D and/or facility operations and maintenance

� Support Division Work Control Point-of-Contact (POC) activities for research safety summaries (RSS). In so doing, assists in coordination of RSS reviews to ensure sufficient peer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) review and to ensure all RSSs are approved and authorized within the proper timeframe.

� Evaluate R&D activities, facilities and operations tasks, or internal operating procedures and processes to identify hazards and provide recommendations for controls and verify adequacy of controls as work proceeds.

� Use comprehensive IH practices and equipment to conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments of chemical and physical hazards.

� Abide by and promote the Safe Conduct of Research principles including being personally responsible for ensuring safe operations, raising safety concerns, using a questioning attitude, considering hazards for every task and where learning never stops.

Qualifications Required:

� A Bachelor�s degree in a science, engineering, operational discipline, or relevant technical field (e.g., health and safety, industrial hygiene, chemistry, biology, engineering, etc.) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in industrial safety/industrial hygiene or a Master�s degree with 1 years relevant experience.

� Experience in field oversight/assessment of industrial hygiene/industrial safety performance and compliance with applicable OSHA, local, state, and federal industrial hygiene and safety standards and regulations.

� Knowledge and background in chemical/material identification and evaluation along with experience in hazard analysis/exposure assessment activities.

Qualifications Preferred:

� Experience working in an R&D environment, including previous health and safety (H&S) experience within the DOE complex or university research environment.

� Technical knowledge of IH instrumentation including calibration, usage, limitations, and calculations/interpretations of results.

� Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to meet inflexible deadlines on own initiative.

� Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO), or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) is preferred.

� Knowledge of DOE policies, procedures, and requirements
