[Civil Engineer] Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Amentum is seeking a Consulting Civil Engineer II (Geotechnical) to be based in our Oak Ridge, TN location. The Consulting Engineer is responsible for providing engineering guidance, calculations, analysis, studies and recommendations for the geotechnical needs segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project. Additional responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the company, project, or contract.


Essential Responsibilities:

1.Prepares, reviews and approves drawings as required.

2.Leads various size groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists.

3.Provides progress reports and alerts others about delays and specialized conditions.

4.Prepares and presents expert testimony before regulatory bodies and courts.

5.Prepares and makes presentations to client and company management.

6.Contributes to technical literature in area of specialty.

7.Assists with the preparation of project scope within a Civil/Geotechnical discipline.

8.Works toward alignment of customer and company objectives.

9.Assists with interpreting codes and permitting as it relates to a specific discipline.

10.Fully understands the use of vendor documents and can review documents for accuracy.

11.Ensures quality, quantity, and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.

12.Advanced level of engineering understanding within the principles of soil and rock mechanics, including but not limited to, earth embankments and excavation cuts, retaining walls, and all other structures interacting with the subsoil and knowledge of erosion/sediment control.

13.Intermediate level of understanding of financial terminology and measures.

14.Fully versed with the process of preparing and checking of calculations.

15.Fully versed in the collection and/or evaluation of data and information regarding technical and economic factors relating to a specific subject within the Civil/Geotechnical discipline.

16.Leads estimating task and performs material take-off's for the Civil/Geotechnical discipline.

17.Understands the project change order process and identifies potential changes.

18.Understands the work sequence, general content, and the methods used to generate specifications for the purchase of material, equipment, systems, services, or construction within a specific discipline.

19. Understanding and knowledge of geotechnical computer software necessary for the discipline, including both 2D & 3D CADD utilizing either Microstation or AutoCad software.

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from a four year accredited college or university.

Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in a discipline or specialty.

Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.

Due to the nature of work, candidate must be a US Citizen.

Dual Citizenship not accepted.

Experience with DOE

PE License preferred

Active DOE clearance a plus
