POSITION DESCRIPTION
Support the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering (N&CSE) organization in the development of nuclear safety calculations and documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site (SRS) as an expert in atmospheric transport and dispersion analysis for radiological and toxic chemical consequence evaluations of accident release scenarios to provide support to the Analytical Support group on an as-needed basis. There is a particular need for experience in performing software quality assurance and running atmospheric transport modeling and simulation software, specifically MACCS2 and GENII. Experience in source term calculations and additional atmospheric transport modeling and simulation software (e.g., AXAIR) would be preferred. Develop accident analyses for liquid and solid waste radiological release events. The events to be analyzed may include, but not be limited to, internal and external events (including fires and explosions) and natural phenomena (including seismic and high wind/tornado). Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and that applicable controls are identified.

​​​​​​EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree in Engineering or Science. PhD in applicable science or engineering discipline and 10 years relevant work experience, MS degree and 12 years relevant work experience, or BS degree and 20 years relevant work experience required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience providing nuclear safety support to facilities in the Department of Energy (DOE) complex. Experience with implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE-STD-3009, DOE-HDBK-3010, DOE-STD-5506, and related standards and guides by preparing nuclear safety documentation and calculations that support development of Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs) is required.
Experience in using MACCS2, CFAST, ALOHA and GENII is preferred. Experience in source term calculations and additional atmospheric transport modeling and simulation software (e.g., AXAIR) would be preferred.
Previous relevant experience at SRS is preferred..
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.

LOCATION
Savannah River Site
Aiken, SC
Position will be primarily performed at SRS and various off-site locations as needed.

The Savannah River Site (SRS), a 310 square mile (198,046 acres) Department of Energy site, is located in the sand-hills region of South Carolina. It encompasses parts of Aiken, Barnwell and Allendale counties and is bordered on the west by the Savannah River and Georgia. SRS is close to several cities, including Augusta, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina. It is also within a few hours of Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, Greenville and Charlotte.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The work schedule will be a nominal 40-hour work week but can be part-time or with interruption between on-site requirements dependent on the support requirements necessary for the project. It is estimated that each standard year will consist of two-thousand and eighty hours. Ability to work a schedule that includes weekend days.
