POSITION DESCRIPTION
DUTIES
• Apply technical and quality engineering experience in field of specialization to resolve complex problems.
• Incorporate advanced technical and quality engineering practices and a variety of complex features such as: complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
• Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area of technical and quality engineering specialization.
• Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering and quality assurance principles; evaluate the results of programs through surveillances, monitoring, assessments, and reviews; prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations; and, identify and recommend improvements where established technology, methodology, and procedures are inadequate for solution.
• Keep informed of the advancement of technology and requirements as applied within one's area of specialization and expertise.
• Develop QA programs and procedures and ensure compliance and effective execution of technical and quality assurance requirements.
• Be accountable for compliance with the approved schedules and that personnel under one's technical guidance are appropriately trained and effectively utilized.
• Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical and quality engineering tasks identified by management. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work completed to ensure that technical and quality requirements are met.
• Serve on a Facility Review Board, providing QA expertise in support of facility start-up and/or operation. Support facility/project needs within the assigned area by conducting procurement, procedure, and work package reviews.
• Communicate objectives and results to customers, colleagues, and management. Prepare reports, professional papers, and articles for internal publication; Occasionally prepare reports for external publication. Communicate with DOESR personnel regarding QA Program and corrective action status.
• Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
• Demonstrate commitment to TQ concepts by active participation and successful implementation of Div./Dept. TQ initiatives.
• Serve as a QA expert in evaluating the QA Programs of major program participants, including subcontractors and suppliers, in order to recommend corrective actions, redirect efforts, and provide judgment regarding a project or facility's potential for success. Present findings to program or facility management and Site QA.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PH.D. degree in Engineering/Science with 5 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction or Industrial Manufacturing
MS degree in Engineering/Science with 8 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction or Industrial Manufacturing
BS degree in Engineering/Science with 10 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction or Industrial Manufacturing.
Non-Technical degree with 13 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction or Industrial Manufacturing
At least 16 years of multi-disciplined professional Quality Assurance or engineering related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in an operations, maintenance, construction, or manufacturing environment, of which, 10 years must have been in a senior position
Desired Qualifications
Past SRNS Qual. and/or ASQC-Certified Quality Engineer is desirable.
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (“L” or “Q”) within the past two years.
Current or prior certification as a lead auditor. Yes
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
LOCATION
Savannah River Site
Aiken, SC
Position will be primarily performed at SRS and various off-site locations as needed.

The Savannah River Site (SRS), a 310 square mile (198,046 acres) Department of Energy site, is located in the sand-hills region of South Carolina. It encompasses parts of Aiken, Barnwell and Allendale counties and is bordered on the west by the Savannah River and Georgia. SRS is close to several cities, including Augusta, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina. It is also within a few hours of Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, Greenville and Charlotte.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Successful candidates will be able to perform the essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodation. The work schedule will be a nominal 40-hour work week but can be part-time or with interruption between on-site requirements dependent on the support requirements necessary for the project. It is estimated that each standard year will consist of two-thousand and eighty hours. Ability to work a schedule that includes weekend days.
