If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in, the Waste Characterization and Disposal group at Westinghouse has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to support its continued growth. Your Team Waste Characterization and Disposal is an engineering group providing technical services for worldwide clients around:

  • Engineering services for treatment and final storage of radioactive waste including process system design, unit process design, regulatory/licensing interface support, bid development, and overall facility design integration.
  • Nuclear safety and licensing studies such as periodic safety review, final safety study, regulatory reports, etc.
  • Characterization and acceptance of nuclear waste from operating plants and end of life decommissioning/dismantling projects including definition of waste acceptance criteria, activity calculation and simulation, design of the conditioning of the different radioactive streams, audits, etc.
The primary responsibilities for this role include:
  • Definition of waste acceptance criteria and complementary procedures and technical specifications.
  • Waste packages activity calculations for Low and Intermediate Level Waste, Very Low Level Waste, storage units, large dimensions waste like equipment and components and singular waste.
  • Activity calculations and verifications of the coherence activity-dose rate with Microshield code.
  • Calculation and definition of the scaling factors and activity concentrations from the sampling activity results and statistical techniques and applications.
  • Radionuclide vectors calculation and validation.
  • Evaluation of radioactive waste conditioning systems and design of new forms of conditioning or new streams.
  • Preparation of engineering documents (calculation reports, descriptions, licensing documents, and specifications).
  • Carrying out production control of waste generation in the Nuclear Power Plants (Quality Assurance process).
  • Participation in research and development projects to respond to new customer needs.
  • Participation in preparation of proposals (technical descriptions, calculation of efforts).
  • Working in international teams.
  • Travelling and onsite activities (worldwide).
Minimum Requirements A successful candidate is required to possess:
  • Master's degree in science or engineering from an accredited University.
  • Training in nuclear engineering would be appreciated.
  • Knowledge about nuclear waste management systems or nuclear engineering
  • Fluent in English with proven reporting skills.
  • MS Office products knowledge.
  • Strong technical interest, predisposition for multi-tasking, flexibility, understanding of project priorities and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to travel (internationally).
  • Driving License would be appreciated.
