If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in, the Waste Characterization and Disposal group at Westinghouse has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to support its continued growth. Your Team Waste Characterization and Disposal is an engineering group providing technical services for worldwide clients around:

  • Engineering services for treatment and final storage of radioactive waste including process system design, unit process design, regulatory/licensing interface support, bid development, and overall facility design integration.
  • Nuclear safety and licensing studies such as periodic safety review, final safety study, regulatory reports, etc.
  • Characterization and acceptance of nuclear waste from operating plants and end of life decommissioning/dismantling projects including definition of waste acceptance criteria, activity calculation and simulation, design of the conditioning of the different radioactive streams, audits, etc.
The primary responsibilities for the junior process engineer role include:
  • Preparation of engineering documents (calculations, system and operational descriptions, licensing documents, and procurement specifications).
  • Development/management of system/facility requirements for waste management, support of process optimization initiatives.
  • Collaboration with drafting for the development of system diagrams (flow, piping & instrumentation, general arrangement & layout).
  • Participation in preparation of proposals (technical descriptions, calculation of efforts, client requirement identification and management).
  • Meetings with suppliers at pre-design, specification development and/or fabrication stages.
  • Supervision of the assembly and testing of design modifications.
  • Support to the Client's site to resolve problems of the waste treatment systems.
  • Offers evaluation and follow up and approval of the supplier's documentation.
  • Participation in international teams.
Minimum Requirements A successful candidate is required to possess:
  • Bachelor´s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Energy engineering or similar, from an accredited University.
  • Knowledge about fluid systems design.
  • Knowledge about nuclear waste management systems, (water purification system design, handling systems, fire protection systems, ventilation systems, etc.) is preferred, but not required.
  • Fluent in English with proven reporting skills.
  • MS Office products knowledge.
  • Strong technical interest, predisposition for multi-tasking, flexibility, understanding of project priorities and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to travel (internationally).
  • Driving License.
