Position Location:
This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Summary:
The Industrial Hygienist serves as an industrial hygiene and safety resource for clean-up operations as a result of past transuranic (TRU) waste processing activities. Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the development, maintenance and implementation of IHS policies, procedures, and process related to ES&H Programs. The IHS Professional will collaborate with their peers and the workforce in developing solutions to complex IHS problems that require in-depth analysis of work activities.
This position reports to the ES&H Programs Manager
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
Providing Industrial Hygiene & Safety technical guidance to operations on environmental remediation problems and issues
Conducting investigations of the site to determine the extent of contamination and ensuring that work will be in accordance with all federal, state regulatory requirements and within Industrial Hygiene & Safety policies
Developing, Maintaining and revising IHS processes/programs necessary for ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
Appling the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.
Monitoring and reviewing the Industrial Hygiene & Safety performance of subcontractors in the areas of work planning, work execution, installation, inspections, material control, and other areas of their work to confirm that they are performing in accordance with subcontract work program (Exhibit F process).
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.in Industrial Hygiene, including use of various sampling and analysis methods, personal exposure monitoring, safety program development, and related recordkeeping.
Excellent communication skills to effectively convey major elements of IHS, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences
Experience preparing, reviewing and presenting Industrial Hygiene & Safety protection reports
Demonstrated advanced experience in the identification, application and interpretation of federal codes, standards, and regulations in several Industrial Hygiene & Safety program areas, including chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment, cryogens, confined spaces, fall protection, and other IHS areas
Advanced experience conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting CH-TRU worker health & safety
Education and Experience Required:
Level 4:
Bachelors' degree in a technical discipline (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physiology, etc.) combined with at least 9 years of relevant experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
Level 5:
Bachelors' degree in a technical discipline (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physiology, etc) combined with at least 14 years of relevant experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
