Requirements:
• 5-7 years of related experience in substation design.
• Accredited bachelor's degree in engineering technology or an associate degree in a related field.
• Approximately 25% travel required.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the design of Southern Company’s Transmission and Distribution Substations.
• Provide engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for substation projects, ensuring a focus on safety, quality, scheduling, and cost control.
• Make safety a top priority by adopting a safety-first mentality.
• Deliver highly productive design packages with exceptional quality.
• Offer technical expertise and guidance to less experienced design personnel.
• Support Substation Field Services, Project Management, and other project stakeholders.
• Coordinate and communicate with associated departments to ensure effective project execution.
• Contribute to Southern Company’s design criteria and standardization efforts.
• Provide support for storm restoration efforts.
Skills and Expertise Required:
• Basic discipline knowledge and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to make independent decisions based on procedures, with review from the supervisor.
• Proficiency with Control Design tools and applications such as AutoCAD Electrical, TEAMS, Stomps, SCST Vault, and Maximo.
• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
• Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff, and vendors.
