Duties and Responsibilities
Support the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering (N&CSE) organization in the development of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site (SRS). Subject areas include Human Factors, Emergency Planning Hazards Assessments (EPHAs), and frequency analysis. Ensure that the developed documentation complies with Department of Energy (DOE) and SRNS/SRS requirements. Demonstrate personal accountability for project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and safe performance of work.
Work Hours: This is a part time position. Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days/week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days/week), and 9/80�s (9 hours/day for four days/week plus 8 hours every other Friday). Work week excludes SRNS holidays unless approved by the Manager. Each workday has a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
Education:
Typically, an advance degree in Engineering, Math, or Science with relevant work
experience - PhD degree and about 15 years relevant work experience, MS degree and 17 years relevant work experience, BS degree and/or about 21 years relevant work experience.
Experience/Skills:
Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of fiſteen (15) years of experience in the nuclear
safety industry through support to the DOE or the commercial nuclear industry.
Previous experience with implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3A, DOE O 420.1B, and
related standards and guides is required.
Minimum requirements include experience with DOE O 151.1, DOE G 151.1-2; knowledge of
Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) and Emergency Acton Level (EAL) evaluations; and knowledge of consequence assessments using the ALOHA and HotSpot computer codes.
Additionally, previous experience developing EPHAs, developing supporting/related documents, reviewing EPHAs and related documents, AND ensuring EPHAs and related documents comply with applicable rules and regulations is required.
A working knowledge of DOE-STD-3009, DOE-STD-1186, NUREG-0700, and IEEE Standard 1023 is required.
In addition to the working knowledge, candidates are required to have previous writing
experience with Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) Chapter 13 preparation and previously
performed Human Factors facility evaluations per the DOE Standards and Orders referenced.
Candidates must also have a working knowledge of frequency analysis.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE �L� security
clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. Aſter award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
