Electrical Commissioning & Construction Specialist
Location: Riverdale, GA
Client- Southern Company Services
Contract- 1 Year
Job Summary
This role is a senior-level position requiring extensive experience in Construction, Engineering Design, Gas Compression Stations, LNG Plant Startup, Plant Engineering, Operations, and/or Maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing construction compliance, commissioning activities, and electrical testing/verification of industrial process equipment and power distribution systems. A strong focus on safety, quality, and project schedule adherence is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Oversight & Quality Control
Abide by and promote all safety rules and procedures; contribute to a safety-focused culture.
Inspect construction installations for compliance with drawings, specifications, and standards.
Assist in planning the sequence and schedule of construction activities to meet budget and timeline objectives.
Verify that all installations meet quality standards and document measurable progress.
Identify installation issues, assist in developing solutions, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
Support site management in contract administration and participate in key meetings (pre-bid, pre-mobilization, contractor orientation, JSAs, status updates).
Commissioning & Electrical Support
Verify installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of industrial electrical devices and power distribution systems.
Perform electrical checks/testing, documentation, and as-built verification to confirm alignment with project design and manufacturer specifications.
Work with field engineers, construction teams, and owner�s personnel to achieve daily commissioning goals.
Ensure compliance with electrical testing standards, OSHA requirements, and applicable safety codes.
Provide training to owner�s operational and maintenance staff on electrical systems and equipment.
Equipment Expertise
Familiarity with and ability to work on:
Switchyards, Switchgear, MCCs
Motors and Drives (VFDs, Generators)
Protective Relaying & Control Circuits
Transformers (Power & Distribution)
Electrical distribution and control equipment.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
10+ years of related experience or a 4-year engineering degree in a related discipline.
Combined experience in construction, commissioning, engineering design, plant startup, operations, or maintenance.
Prior experience with industrial/power plant projects strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
Deep knowledge of electrical standards (OSHA, NFPA, NEC) and best practices.
Proficiency in industrial power & process plant systems (medium/low voltage).
Skilled in installation verification, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and documentation of electrical systems.
Strong understanding of construction practices for conduits, cable tray installation, supports, and cable-pulling techniques.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Competence in creating and/or following safe work procedures (LOTO, Arc Flash, Arc Blast, Shock Hazard protections).
Leadership & Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Effective communication skills (verbal & written); comfortable interfacing with contractors, vendors, designers, and owner�s representatives.
Ability to lead and supervise technicians, subcontractors, or client personnel as required.
High degree of self-motivation, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to project completion.
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and extended hours as project schedules require.
Ability to travel to site locations and perform physical tasks related to inspections and equipment testing.
Participate in continuous improvement of site processes and contribute to a culture of safety and compliance.
