JOB TITLE: Principal Engineer, Glovebox
DUTIES
Define the scope of technical programs and deliver innovative, high-quality solutions to complex or controversial challenges.
Ensure compliance with company and industry standards while applying site systems to meet quality, schedule, and cost goals.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less senior professionals.
Resolve complex issues using in-depth experience in a specialized or multidisciplinary technical field.
Integrate advanced practices and complex features such as unique materials, specialized processes, and challenging coordination needs into problem-solving and planning.
Lead efforts to identify solutions to technical issues and be recognized as an expert in a specific area of engineering.
Provide direction across departmental lines, applying scientific and engineering principles to develop new solutions and novel applications.
Evaluate program performance and prepare actionable reports and recommendations.
Identify deficiencies in existing technologies or methods and recommend improvements.
Stay current on advancements in relevant technologies and apply that knowledge to project planning, including schedules, budgets, and staffing needs.
Develop and manage technical schedules, monitor progress and budgets, and review work quality.
Communicate technical results and objectives clearly through reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
Occasionally prepare technical papers or reports for external publication.
Participate in and lead local technical societies to maintain field expertise.
Demonstrate innovation through patent disclosures, problem-solving, and technical publications.
WORK HOURS
Standard 40-hour work week.
Flexible schedules may include:
5/8s (8 hours/day, 5 days/week)
4/10s (10 hours/day, 4 days/week)
9/80s (9 hours/day, alternating 5 and 4-day weeks)
30-minute unpaid lunch break each day.
Overtime may be required to meet deliverables and is subject to managerial discretion.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Ph.D. in a science or engineering discipline and 5+ years of experience;
OR
Master�s degree with 8+ years of experience;
OR
Bachelor�s degree with 10+ years of experience.
Experience / Skills:
Experience in process engineering or operations management involving glovebox operations and nuclear materials.
Strong knowledge of plutonium chemistry and associated nuclear, radiological, and industrial safety protocols.
Proficient in the development, approval, and implementation of:
Documented Safety Analysis (DSA)
Technical Safety Requirements (TSR)
Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSE)
Proven ability to interact with customers and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) to resolve issues.
Demonstrated leadership in managing multi-disciplinary teams to solve complex and controversial processing problems.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Security Clearance: Active DOE �Q� clearance required.
Contractor Requirements: Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and an approved DOE/NNSA Facility-Level Clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with an active DOE �L� or �Q� clearance within the past two (2) years are strongly preferred.
