Disability Program Specialist (DPS)
Duties
� Administer Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) benefits for employees.
� Provide direct case management services for qualifying employees.
� Use nursing knowledge of human disease processes to assess eligibility for STD and LTD.
� Approve paid time off for employees on STD with limited supervision.
� Maintain and update status logs in databases, tracking medical notes, return-to-work dates, time off, and time class usage.
� Support, guide, and lead in the implementation and maintenance of disability programs.
� Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for disability programs and policies.
� Evaluate non-occupational injuries/illnesses for return-to-work readiness under supervision.
� Research and interpret applicable standards and requirements for each claim.
� Consult with employees through email, phone, or in-person discussions regarding illness/injury.
� Coordinate with healthcare professionals and line management to determine key facts related to cases.
� Collaborate with Site Medical, EEO, HR, Policy, and Line Management to resolve return-to-work matters.
� Recommend paid time off under STD and manage related documentation.
� Create and manage return-to-work programs for transitioning off STD.
� Collaborate on LTD arrangements with stakeholders when needed.
� Track FMLA and STD-related leave and time off.
� Attend bi-weekly reviews with Sedgwick regarding LTD cases and transitions.
� Work with Sedgwick on Right of Recovery for retroactive Social Security awards tied to LTD payments.
� Provide direction and guidance to others, though not in a supervisory capacity.
� Participate in training and presentations for various site groups on disability programs.
� Perform additional duties as required.
Work Hours
� Standard 40-hour work week.
� Schedules may include: 5/8s (8 hours/day, 5 days/week), 4/10s (10 hours/day, 4 days/week), or 9/80s (9 hours/day, alternating 5 and 4-day weeks).
� Each workday includes a 30-minute lunch break.
� Overtime may be required at the discretion of the Manager.
Required Qualifications
� Bachelor�s degree in Nursing.
� Minimum of 5 years of experience in vocational, occupational, or industrial health.
Other Required Qualifications
� Security clearance is not required.
Preferred Qualifications
� Certified Occupational Health Nurse.
� Experience in disability case management is preferred.
