Sr. Project Manager to lead the full lifecycle development and construction of new power generation facilities. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in managing complex, large-scale energy infrastructure projects from greenfield site development through final commissioning. Candidates with relevant new site build experience in the oil & gas industry can be considered.
Responsibilities:
Lead end-to-end project execution for new-build power generation facilities, from early-stage planning through commissioning and turnover.
Develop comprehensive project management plans, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, procurement, quality, risk, communication, and safety components.
Manage project scope and control change through a formal change management process; ensure all changes are documented, evaluated, and approved.
Create and maintain integrated project schedules tracking milestones, dependencies, and critical path activities.
Develop and maintain project budgets; monitor cost performance, track variances, and proactively manage forecast trends and contingency use.
Perform regular project performance reviews, including earned value analysis, KPI tracking, and forecasting for cost and schedule adherence.
Identify and mitigate project risks through detailed risk assessments, response planning, and ongoing monitoring.
Oversee and direct contractor activities, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety standards.
Collaborate closely with engineering teams to review and approve design packages, construction work packages, and technical deliverables.
Lead project meetings (internal and external) and status reviews.
Facilitate effective communication among internal teams, contractors, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure transparency, alignment, and timely issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle. Serve as a key escalation point to address conflicts, remove roadblocks, and drive consensus around complex technical and commercial decisions.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and permitting requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare and deliver clear, concise progress reports, dashboards, and executive briefings to clients, internal leadership, and key stakeholders.
Lead commissioning and startup activities to ensure the facility meets all operational, safety, and environmental performance requirements.
Build and maintain a high-performing project team culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and delivery excellence.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor�s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field. Related work experience in place of formal education can be considered.
PMP certification is a plus.
Minimum of 10 years of project management experience in power generation or large-scale energy infrastructure, with at least 5 years managing new site builds.
Demonstrated success managing multi-phase EPC projects exceeding $100 million in total installed cost.
Deep understanding of the engineering, procurement, and construction requirements specific to power generation technologies.
Experience with major utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), or EPC contractors.
Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Experience:
Power Generation Industry Experience: Background in utility-scale power generation. Experience working with or for regulated utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), or merchant power operators.
Oil & Gas Industry Experience: Experience managing greenfield facility construction in the upstream, midstream, or downstream oil & gas sectors, especially if it involved large capital projects, complex logistics, or multi-discipline engineering coordination.
EPC / Construction Management Firms: Prior employment with or direct oversight of EPC contractors, construction management firms, or owner�s engineer teams, especially if the candidate played a key role in aligning technical execution with commercial outcomes.
Heavy Industrial or Energy Infrastructure Projects: Background in large-scale industrial capital projects (e.g., chemical plants, refineries, LNG terminals, carbon capture facilities), especially if experience includes environmental compliance, commissioning, or operational turnover.
Public or Government-Funded Energy Projects: Experience working on energy projects funded or overseen by federal, state, or municipal agencies.
Union and Non-Union Environments: Familiarity with managing construction in both unionized and open-shop environments, understanding labor relations, collective bargaining agreements, and jurisdictional work rules.
Multi-Project or Portfolio-Level Oversight: Experience managing multiple concurrent capital projects or working within a program or portfolio management structure within organizations executing long-term capital plans.
