Construction Field Engineer
Duties
� Direct and coordinate craft labor in the installation of construction projects and maintenance work activities.
� Provide required permits and design information; coordinate work with operating departments.
� Monitor and control project costs; support planning and scheduling of field activities.
� Evaluate and document subcontractor performance and compliance with quality, schedule, safety, security, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
� Resolve field problems by communicating with craft personnel and supervision.
� Ensure required permits are written, routed, and posted before work begins.
� Study drawings and design requirements; generate time estimates and collaborate with scheduling for short-term and intermediate plans.
� Coordinate with safety and security teams regarding special situations or secure areas.
� Write job plans, procedures, design change forms, and shop orders as needed.
� Monitor material and equipment installation for conformance to drawings and specifications.
� Participate in equipment startup and functional checkouts.
� Review material requisitions, procurement levels, storage needs, and material codes.
� Walk down and review designs for constructability; resolve design issues in the field with engineers.
� Coordinate work authorization documents and ensure work planning and permit processes are complete.
� Perform regular inspections and audits of subcontractors to ensure contract compliance.
� Document inspections and observations in daily activity reports.
� Assist in developing technical specifications and statements of work for requisitions and changes.
� Evaluate submitted bids as needed.
Work Hours
� Standard 40-hour work week.
� Schedules may include: 5/8s (8 hours/day, 5 days/week), 4/10s (10 hours/day, 4 days/week), or 9/80s (9 hours/day, alternating 5- and 4-day weeks).
� Each workday includes a 30-minute lunch break.
� Overtime may be required to meet deliverables at the discretion of the Manager.
Required Qualifications
� Bachelor�s degree in a technical discipline and 2�4 years of experience in construction engineering or a related area.
� Associate�s degree with 5�7 years of practical experience or a high school diploma with 8�12 years of experience may be considered equivalent.
� General knowledge of system testing and operations to ensure adequate pre-operational testing coverage.
Other Required Qualifications
� Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE 'Q' clearance.
� An active clearance is not required at start but may be needed based on assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
� Active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past 2 years preferred.
� Experience on an NQA-1 project involving civil/structural construction with pedigree requirements.
� In-depth knowledge or certification in ACI (American Concrete Institute) and CRSI (Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute) standards.
