Principal Construction Coordinator
Duties
• Represent construction management on project teams with ownership of complex projects and/or Work Authorizing Documents (WAD) covering technical, cost, and schedule baselines.
• Administer and ensure compliance with direct hire or subcontract management program site-wide.
• Develop programmatic changes to enhance the subcontract management program in response to DOE directives.
• Coordinate with facility management on work scope, estimate approvals, and funding distribution.
• Collaborate with project controls and construction execution teams on scope development, estimates, and planning.
• Oversee all aspects of assigned complex construction projects and maintenance orders, ensuring efficient execution from design through closeout.
• Review labor and material cost reports; identify variances and validate alignment with budgets and plans.
• Confirm that technical scope aligns with baseline schedule and cost estimates for constructability approval.
• Participate in setting and approving technical, cost, and schedule baselines for projects and CMOs.
• Evaluate preliminary scopes, designs, schedules, and estimates to assess constructability and accuracy.
• Monitor project and maintenance progress, identify issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Interface with project management, DOE, design, procurement, and construction teams to achieve milestones safely and cost-effectively.
Work Hours
• Standard 40-hour work week.
• Work schedules may include: 5/8s (8 hours/day, 5 days/week), 4/10s (10 hours/day, 4 days/week), or 9/80s (9 hours/day, alternating 5- and 4-day weeks).
• Each workday includes a 30-minute lunch break.
• Overtime may be required to meet deliverables and is at the discretion of the Manager.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 11–13 years of practical construction experience.
• Associate’s degree with 13–15 years of experience or high school diploma with 15–18 years of experience may be considered equivalent.
• Extensive knowledge of construction costs, scheduling, and strategy development or evaluation.
Experience / Skills
• Thorough understanding of project management and tactical project planning.
• Familiarity with operations, maintenance, project startup, construction management, and construction subcontracts.
Other Required Qualifications
• DOE 'Q' Security Clearance required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Preference given to candidates who have held an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years.
