Senior Quality Assurance/Control Engineer
Duties
� Define the scope of technical and quality engineering programs and develop solutions to complex or controversial problems.
� Ensure compliance with company and industry standards while delivering cost-effective and timely results.
� Provide guidance to junior professionals and resolve advanced technical and quality challenges.
� Apply advanced engineering and QA practices, including the use of specialized materials, complex technical requirements, and intricate oversight activities.
� Lead efforts in identifying new solutions and applications of engineering and QA principles across programs.
� Evaluate program effectiveness through surveillances, monitoring, assessments, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations.
� Identify and suggest improvements to methodologies and procedures where existing ones are inadequate.
� Stay current with technological and regulatory advancements in the QA field.
� Develop QA programs and procedures; ensure their effective implementation within assigned facilities or programs.
� Ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets, and oversee the technical utilization and training of assigned personnel.
� Serve on Facility Review Boards and support facility start-up or operations with QA expertise.
� Conduct reviews of procurement, procedures, and work packages to ensure QA compliance.
� Communicate objectives and results clearly through reports, papers, and briefings with DOE-SR and internal teams.
� Engage with technical societies at the local or national level to maintain and expand QA expertise.
� Support Total Quality (TQ) initiatives through active participation and implementation.
� Evaluate QA programs of subcontractors and suppliers, recommend corrective actions, and present findings to management.
� Perform field walk-downs, including navigating construction sites and climbing ladders to access remote areas.
� Support supplier oversight activities requiring travel of up to 80%, including multi-week visits to supplier facilities.
� Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Work Hours
� Standard 40-hour work week.
� Possible work schedules include: 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s.
� Each workday includes a 30-minute lunch break.
� Overtime may be required to meet deliverables at the discretion of the Manager.
� Position requires up to 80% travel to supplier facilities. This is not a resident position.
Required Qualifications
� Ph.D. in Engineering/Science with 5 years of QA/QC or Engineering experience in operations, maintenance, construction, or manufacturing.
� OR MS degree with 8 years, BS degree with 10 years, or Non-Technical degree with 13 years of relevant experience.
� OR 16 years of professional QA or engineering-related experience, including 10 years in a senior position.
Experience / Skills
� Practical experience in QA/QC, work control, materials management, construction, or related fields.
� Ability to conduct physical walk-downs in active construction areas, including walking long distances and climbing ladders.
Other Required Qualifications
� Security Clearance: Not initially required. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE 'Q' clearance.
� Previous experience in Mechanical and Welding Inspection and/or Fabrication.
Preferred Qualifications
� Previous DOE clearance (L or Q) preferred.
� Lead Auditor certification preferred.
� Experience with surveillance activities.
