JOB SUMMARY:
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory develops advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology for the safety and reliability of our Navy's submarine and aircraft fleet. Our company is seeking for a Mechanical Engineer member to join our Shipping Container Recapitalization team. The Mechanical Engineer member will perform engineering evaluations in support of the design, analysis, or testing of the development of radiological shipping containers and support equipment. Responsibilities may include sponsoring test programs, performing structural analysis, developing designs and engineering drawings, performing alignment & tolerance studies (fit-up analysis), developing specifications, and working with suppliers. The engineer should have experience with mechanical equipment requirements, design, structural analysis, or testing. Additionally, the engineer may support engineering and business activities of the Reactor Servicing organization, as needed.
The position is for fully remote work and will require travel initially to get set up and then about once per quarter to Liberty Street, Bettis or other program sites.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
-Minimum four year BS degree in engineering Microsoft Office Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, or Testing Experience.
-10+ years of experience
-Strong written and verbal communication skills Technical writing Ability to independently work remotely.
-L Clearance required
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
-Familiarity with Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program requirements.
-Familiarity with Reactor Servicing requirements.
-Mechanical testing Alignment and tolerance studies or fit-up studies.
-Developing engineering drawings or specifications.
-Mechanical automations and Python scripting
