Civil Engineer - Mineral VA
Start: July 2025
Pay Rate: Up to $87/hr ST (1.5 OT)
Length of Assignment: 3+ years
Schedule: 4/10s w/ one day remote
Work Location: North Anna Power Plant (Mineral, VA)
High Level Project Overview:
The North Anna Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) project is a long-term initiative to extend the plants operational life to 80 years through major system upgrades and infrastructure modernization. Design Engineers play a critical role in developing and executing technical solutions across mechanical, civil, and electrical scopes to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence. This is a high-impact opportunity to help shape the future of nuclear energy through innovative, safety-focused engineering.
Job Summary
Work with application specific engineering team to gain understanding for different system functions and system requirements
Review and Approve Civil Engineering plans developed by equipment vendor
Review and gain a thorough understanding of Application requirements as driven by design specifications, regulatory requirements, and software/hardware requirements assisted by the requirements lead engineer
Ability to report activity status and communicate with all levels of owner/leadership
Required Education:
Bachelors in Civil Engineering required, Masters Degree OR PE preferred
Top Required Skills
1) Experience with design of steel and concrete structures or components (Pipes and conduits supports, Junction boxes support, foundations, etc.)
2) Familiar with industrial standards such as ACI, ASCE, ASME codes for lifting and rigging
3) Experience with seismic analysis and design for mounting components and equipment
5+ years of relevant engineering experience
Soft skill requirements
o Collaboration and cross-discipline communication essential for coordinating with mechanical, electrical, and regulatory teams on integrated design solutions.
o Adaptability and problem-solving to navigate evolving project scopes, legacy infrastructure constraints, and regulatory requirements.
o Attention to detail and documentation rigor critical for ensuring design packages meet nuclear safety and compliance standards.
o Initiative and ownership to proactively identify design risks, propose improvements, and drive tasks to completion.
o Stakeholder engagement including the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and support field implementation teams.
Nice to Have Skills:
o Finite Element Modeling
o Experience as a Responsible Engineering at a Nuclear Facility
o Experience with Software (Mathcad, GTSTrudl, STADD, ANSyS)
o Nuclear Standard Design Process/Design Change qualification
o Nuclear power plant experience
o Familiarity with NRC regulations
