Principal Engineer (Electrical Design Engineer)
General Duties
� Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges involving unique or controversial problems.
� Creatively meet company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely, and cost-effective results.
� Provide quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals.
� Apply specialized or broad-based technical experience in multiple fields to resolve complex problems.
� Incorporate advanced technical practices, new materials or processes, and oversight requirements into problem-solving.
� Lead the resolution of complex issues and be recognized for technical expertise.
� Direct technical programs across department lines and develop new approaches or applications.
� Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations.
� Identify improvements where current methodologies are inadequate.
� Stay informed of technology advancements and apply them appropriately.
� Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and staffing for technical tasks.
� Monitor project schedules, budgets, and work quality.
� Communicate objectives and results clearly in both verbal and written formats.
� Publish reports externally when appropriate and engage with professional societies.
� Demonstrate creativity through patent disclosures, technical reports, and publications.
Specific Duties for the Posting
� Provide electrical design engineering support including analysis, construction support, walkdowns, and design document generation.
� Develop deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, Equipment Lists, Control System Designs, Schematics, Connection Diagrams, Equipment and Bulk Material Specifications.
� Perform electrical calculations including short circuit, arc flash, load flow, and system sizing using software such as ETAP.
� Follow SRNS procedures and receive programmatic guidance from SRNS.
Work Hours
� Up to a 40-hour work week.
� Schedules may include 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s.
� Each workday includes a 30-minute lunch break.
� Overtime may be required at the discretion of the Manager.
Required Qualifications
� Ph.D. in science/engineering with 5+ years� experience OR MS with 8+ years OR BS with 10+ years of relevant experience. Please Answer:
� Minimum 10 years of design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry. Please Answer:
� Working knowledge of NEC, IES, NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA. Please Answer:
� Experience using ETAP or similar software for electrical system calculations. Please Answer:
� Ability to perform field walkdowns in active construction environments, which may involve walking over 0.5 miles, ladder climbing, and protective gear use. Please Answer:
Other Required Qualifications
� Ability to obtain and maintain Q clearance required. Please Answer:
Preferred Qualifications
� Active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years. Please Answer:
� Prior experience with SRS Design Engineering or DOE facilities. Please Answer:
� Proficiency with MicroStation 2D CADD software. Please Answer:
