Principal Estimator � SRNS (Savannah River Site) � REQ# 1417
Position Overview
The Principal Estimator at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) is responsible for leading the estimating functions and ensuring accurate and timely preparation of cost estimates across complex or unique projects. This includes the development, implementation, and oversight of estimating systems and methodologies that support successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
� Lead the development of total project estimates, including basis documents and cost analysis.
� Develop or supervise detailed cost estimates for highly complex projects using advanced principles.
� Act independently or lead estimating teams on small to large-sized projects.
� Develop and maintain estimating systems, databases, pricing structures, and software tools.
� Oversee productivity factors, indirect costs, G&A expenses, and contingency analyses.
� Coordinate closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Construction, and Maintenance teams.
� Review technical documentation and provide accurate cost projections.
� Direct conceptual and indirect estimating functions.
� Ensure estimates reflect complete and current scope, accounting for technical uncertainties.
� Prepare and present risk analyses and contingency evaluations.
� Mentor and support the professional development of departmental personnel.
� Lead estimate reviews, defend cost justifications, and ensure proper turnover to Project Controls.
� Develop and conduct internal training on estimating processes and best practices.
Work Schedule
This role follows a standard 40-hour workweek. SRNS offers multiple schedule formats including 5/8s, 4/10s, and 9/80s. Each workday includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Overtime may be required based on deliverables and will be managed at the discretion of the hiring manager.
Required Qualifications
� Bachelor�s degree in business, construction management, engineering, or a related technical field with 10 years of experience; or a Master's degree with 8 years of experience; or equivalent experience: Associate�s degree with 13 years or high school diploma with 17 years. Please Answer:
� Expertise in cost estimating, scheduling, financial analysis, and cost control systems. Please Answer:
� Strong knowledge of engineering, procurement, construction, and general business operations. Please Answer:
� Proficiency with PC software, automated estimating tools, and SRNS business systems. Please Answer:
� Experience with both conceptual and detailed estimates including technical scope quantification, pricing, and contingency planning. Please Answer:
Security Clearance
Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q Clearance required. Please Answer:
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who have held an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years are preferred. Please Answer:
