Job Summary
We are seeking an entry-level GIS Technician I to support the management and maintenance of our geospatial data systems. This role is ideal for individuals with a diploma or certificate in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or a related field who are eager to build their career in utilities and geospatial data management. The successful candidate will assist senior GIS staff with data entry, map creation, and database updates to ensure accurate and reliable information that supports utility projects.

Responsibilities
Assist in managing and updating GIS databases, ensuring accurate and consistent data input.

Perform data entry, edits, and updates to geospatial datasets.

Create and update basic maps using GIS tools under the direction of GIS Analysts.

Support GIS Analysts and Engineers in larger utility and infrastructure projects.

Participate in GIS-related training to enhance skills and technical knowledge.

Conduct routine data quality checks to maintain integrity and reliability of spatial data.

Required Qualifications
Education: Diploma or Certificate in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or a related curriculum.

Experience: 0–2 years of GIS-related experience (internships, co-op, or academic projects acceptable).

Technical Skills:

Familiarity with GIS software and tools (ESRI ArcGIS preferred).

Basic understanding of geospatial data structures, coordinate systems, and data formats.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Desired Skills & Competencies
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.

Ability to follow processes, procedures, and quality standards.

Eagerness to learn and adapt to new GIS technologies and workflows.

Strong teamwork skills with the ability to support senior analysts.

Good organizational and time management skills to balance multiple tasks.

Work Environment
Location: Office-based with potential hybrid flexibility depending on project needs.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday.
