Laboratory Technician
Work Location: Washington DC
Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate
Hours: 40 hrs/week
Start: Immediately

General Description:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, performs routine chemical laboratory functions including, conducting chemical durability and other chemical tests and their associated measurements; receiving and tagging chemicals and chemical wastes and maintaining the chemical inventory; maintaining deionized water systems and verifying water quality. Works independently but in collaboration with other staff to support VSL research needs.

Experience requirements:
• 2 years of experience working in a chemical laboratory and using laboratory instrumentation and analytical equipment (pipettes, balances, pH meters, spectrometers, etc.).

Education Requirements:
• A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or a related scientific field is required.

Other Requirements:
• The ability to follow established laboratory operating and quality procedures, maintain written records, follow supervisor’s instructions, and comply with safety protocols.
• Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Proficient in the use of office productivity software and able to quickly learn and use instrumentation software.
• May be required to work with radioactive and/or hazardous materials wearing appropriate PPE.

• Standing, Stooping, Climbing ladders
• Light lifting (occasional lifting of 25 lbs. or less)
• Manual Dexterity
• Mobility within expansive lab facilities
