Short Term assignment: 6-8 weeks.

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Test Engineer SME with specialized expertise in the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of HVAC systems, focusing on chillers and air handlers, within nuclear facilities. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of nuclear industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental controls, ensuring optimal performance of critical HVAC systems in highly regulated environments. Testing and Commissioning: Plan, execute, and document testing protocols for chillers and air handlers, including performance, efficiency, and safety tests, to ensure operational reliability in nuclear environments. Nuclear Compliance: Ensure all HVAC systems meet nuclear regulatory requirements. Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC system issues, focusing on chillers and air handlers, to maintain optimal performance and environmental control in nuclear facilities.
Technical Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert on HVAC systems within nuclear applications, providing guidance to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, system documentation, and compliance records for audits and regulatory reviews. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including nuclear engineers, safety officers, and project managers, to integrate HVAC systems into broader facility operations.

Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., PE, CEM, or NCEES) preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in HVAC engineering, with at least 5 years focused on chillers and air handler installation, testing, and maintenance. In-depth knowledge of nuclear-specific HVAC requirements, including radiation control, containment, and environmental safety.
Technical Skills: Expertise in designing and troubleshooting large-scale HVAC systems, including centrifugal chillers, air-cooled chillers, and air handling units. Proficiency with HVAC design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, TRACE 700) and testing tools. Strong understanding of nuclear codes and standards (e.g., NRC regulations, DOE Order 420.1C, ASHRAE 90.1). Familiarity with control systems (e.g., BAS/BMS) for HVAC integration in critical environments.
Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Ability to work under pressure in high-stakes, safety-critical environments. Other Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance for nuclear facility access. Willingness to travel to project for the duration of the assignment (6-8 weeks). Commitment to adhering to strict safety and compliance protocols.
