We are seeking a Sr. Radiation Protection Technician to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
Performs the full range of RCT support activities and serves as the primary point of contact for planning, coordination of resources, and ensuring resolution of conflicting demands in highly dynamic and challenging conditions that require the ability of a strong tactical decision maker.
Provides substantial independent effort.
Ensures that radiological controls are correctly applied for radiological work, including high-hazard radiological work, by serving as authorized subject matter expert for development of radiological work control packages (RWCPs).
Provides coordination of work area resources as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Fulfills customer radiation protection requests while ensuring established RP-1 priorities are followed.
Works effectively with customers and supervision to resolve problems including elevation of issues beyond the ability of the RCT 4 to resolve.
Anticipates problems and handles unforeseen issues.
Completes technical supervision responsibilities but certainly includes responsibility for providing technical leadership and review.
Demonstrates excellence in safety and compliance to RCTs co-workers and customers.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience - High School Diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience.
Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
Must be able to meet moderate physical demands, such as lifting and carrying radiation protection instruments and wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.
Must be able to work, at times, outdoors and be scheduled outside of regular work hours. *This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve OT hours and/or working a rotating shift/weekend schedule; employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Must have extensive experience in supporting radiological activities and facilities.
Must have experience in applying operational health physics to work.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds.
Must have Reading Vision; Peripheral Vision, Depth Perception.
Must be able to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz).
Must be able to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, and climb; in addition to reaching overhead, horizontally, and down.
Must be free from chronic wounds or chronic rashes which disrupt the integrity of the skin that would prevent safe entry into controlled areas.
Must be able to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to six feet.
