Title: Senior Fellow Engineer – Structural Mechanics Subject Matter Expert
Location: Aiken, South Carolina (Savannah River Site)
Contract: 1 year + 2 option years
Estimated Pay Rate: $114/hr with full benefits

Position Summary
The Senior Fellow Engineer will serve as a Structural Mechanics SME providing high-level technical expertise and leadership to SRNS Design Engineering staff. The role involves advanced structural and mechanical analysis, technical mentorship, and program planning. The engineer will act as a recognized internal expert—driving solutions to complex problems, leading teams, and contributing to the advancement of engineering practices across the site.
Primary Duties
Provide subject matter expertise in structural mechanics to Design Engineering.
Perform equipment qualification including seismic analysis and testing.
Conduct advanced finite element (FEA) stress-strain, dynamic, and impact analyses.
Lead design efforts involving structures, systems, and components (SSC) under extreme load conditions (seismic, explosion, impact, jet/fragment, whip effects).
Develop and implement risk-informed inspection and mechanical integrity programs.
Perform failure analysis, field support, and troubleshooting for nuclear and process systems.
Recommend and lead engineering research or development programs within field of expertise.
Represent SRNS and the company in technical societies and oversight groups.
Mentor junior engineers in both technical and communication areas.
Perform field walk-downs of job sites, including construction zones and elevated/remote areas.
Required Education & Experience
Ph.D. and 12+ years experience, or
M.S. and 15+ years experience, or
B.S. and 18+ years experience in Structural or Mechanical Engineering, or
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in one of these disciplines.
Required Experience/Skills
Recognized internal expert in structural or mechanical engineering.
Proven mastery in pressure equipment design and analysis (piping, vessels, tanks).
Experience in qualification, inspection, fitness-for-service, and repair of systems within nuclear power, process industries, and DOE environments.
Ability to perform field walk-downs under varying site conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Savannah River Site (SRS) Design Engineering experience.
Active or recent (within 2 years) DOE L or Q clearance.
Strong background in DOE complex engineering standards and NQA-1 compliance.
Security & Work Requirements
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Employer must hold an active eFOCI registration and Facility Level Clearance (DOE/NNSA).
Work schedule may include 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s, with overtime as needed.
Must be able to perform on-site field work including walking, climbing, and PPE use.
