Senior Construction Engineer – RFQ 1475

Location: Onsite – Aiken, SC
Estimated Pay Rate: $55/hour with full benefits
Duties
Provide engineering support to superintendents and crafts, verify materials, equipment, and workmanship, and assure results meet design requirements. Assure construction activities are executed safely and with the highest quality standards while monitoring the cost and schedule of assigned work activities.
Interface and coordinate all aspects of construction with design, procurement, security, safety, operations, health physics, quality control, scheduling, cost, and management.
Develop construction scope turnover packages and coordinate systems completion and testing activities in support of the turnover schedule.
Direct the preparation of work packages and ensure craft personnel understand specific work package requirements. Maintain continuity with quality control to ensure work quality meets all requirements.
Coordinate with design agencies to support the timely issuance of new designs or design changes.
Lead the constructability program in assigned areas and provide technical expertise for construction methods and practices.
Ensure construction work is completed correctly and fully. Provide technical and programmatic direction to subordinate construction engineering personnel as needed.
Provide construction testing and start-up services for construction projects. Administer assigned subcontracts and provide disposition for nonconformance reports and corrective action requests.
Design temporary construction facilities as needed. Assist in establishing maintenance requirements for all permanent plant equipment.
Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment, and workmanship comply with contract documents.
Work Hours:
A standard 40-hour week is scheduled. Work schedules may include 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s. Overtime may be required to meet deliverables at the discretion of the Manager.
Required Qualifications: Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and 5–7 years of practical experience in construction engineering or related areas.
Associate’s degree and 7–9 years of practical experience may be considered equivalent.
High school diploma and 10–14 years of practical experience may be considered equivalent.
General knowledge of system testing and operations is helpful for ensuring system turnover scope is adequate for pre-operational testing.
Leadership training in methods improvement is desirable.
Area Security Access:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance. Active clearance not required initially; timing is determined after award.
Preferred Qualifications
Previously held an active DOE L or Q clearance within the past two years.
High familiarization with ASME codes and B31.3 pressure boundary systems.
Strong understanding of constructability reviews and ability to communicate review processes with design authorities.
Strong understanding of cross-functional teams, with the ability to communicate issues as they arise and drive resolution.
