Piping Designer Roles (Senior Design Specialist, Senior Piping Designer, Principal Piping Designer)
Onsite | Greenville, SC
We are supporting multiple onsite piping design roles in Greenville, SC, across senior through principal levels, depending on depth of experience and demonstrated capability. These positions support large, complex industrial and nuclear-related EPC projects.
Final role level will be determined based on experience, technical depth, and demonstrated ability to execute and lead within a piping design environment.
Core Responsibilities (All Levels)
Develop, review, and modify piping layout and design deliverables in support of engineering and construction activities
Interpret P&IDs, specifications, vendor data, and field conditions
Utilize SmartPlant 3D (S3D) and related tools to develop piping models and drawings
Perform field walkdowns, incorporate redlines, and resolve design issues
Coordinate with mechanical, stress, structural, electrical, and construction teams
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Support material take-offs, vendor reviews, and construction support activities
Level-Specific Responsibilities
Senior Design Specialist (Piping)
Execute piping layouts and drawings with minimal supervision
Interpret engineering direction and apply established design practices
Modify existing drawings and develop new design details
Perform field system walkdowns and incorporate field direction into designs
Provide limited guidance to junior designers as assigned
Escalate complex technical decisions to senior or principal-level designers
Typical Profile
Strong S3D / SmartPlant user
Execution-focused designer
Associate degree (or equivalent) with approximately 10+ years of piping design experience
Nuclear or large industrial EPC experience preferred
Senior Piping Designer
Lead piping layout development for assigned areas or systems
Review, check, and coordinate piping designs developed by other designers
Interface directly with engineering disciplines and construction to resolve design and constructability issues
Perform bulk material take-offs and support procurement and fabrication activities
Serve as a technical resource and mentor for junior designers
Typical Profile
Proven lead-level piping design experience
Strong understanding of constructability and field execution
Associate degree (or equivalent) with approximately 12–15+ years of experience
Significant EPC and/or nuclear project experience
Principal Piping Designer
Serve as piping discipline authority for assigned scope or project areas
Establish piping layout strategies and resolve complex design conflicts
Approve and guide piping modeling standards and execution practices
Provide technical direction and mentoring to senior-level designers
Coordinate closely with engineering leadership to ensure schedule, quality, and constructability objectives are met
Typical Profile
Demonstrated ownership of piping scope on complex EPC projects
Recognized technical authority within piping discipline
Typically 15+ years of progressively responsible experience
Extensive nuclear or high-hazard industrial project background
Qualifications (Applies to All Levels)
Associate degree in a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
Strong working knowledge of piping design within heavy industrial or nuclear environments
Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
Proficiency with SmartPlant 3D (S3D); Intergraph tools preferred
Ability to work onsite in Greenville, SC

Rates and leveling are determined based on experience and finalized role assignment.

Intake Note (Important)
Candidates will be evaluated using a standardized piping designer self-assessment to support proper role alignment. Candidates may be considered for only one level based on overall evaluation.
